    I think if G. Washington was consuming hemp to get high, he would have mentioned it. After all, it wasn't illegal back then.
    Up until the 1800's, very few people smoked marijuana. The preferred method of THC ingestion was to eat hash.

    Back in the late 60's, during the huge weed explosion, when marijuana smoking increased by 100,000%, most hempheads, at least in SoCal, used Zig Zag wheat straw rolling papers. These were brown.
    After smoking most of a joint you were left with what looked like a cockroach. And people would hide them under a couch, ashtray, etc. so they wouldn't be laying around in plain sight.
    Hence the word roach referring to a marijuana cigarette butt.
