:) Not saying it's all bad over there, but if you're going to make references to the wild wild west i think the first place you should look is on your door step. I've said it before, i really like the US, and i can't deny that we do have gun problems over here, but our problem certainly isn't as drastic. Two bouncers were shot in the legs five minutes away from my house a couple of weeks ago, because the gun men weren't allowed into a club, things like this do happen here, but i blame your gun culture more than the fact that we like the wild wild west.

Don't forget, Native Americans, the world could have done without the wild wild west all together.

Oh we can own guns, but the laws are very strict ... However we can only carry guns if they are being transported to and from a home to somewhere like a hunt or a firing range.

Most people could own a gun if they could be bothered but it's really not in our culture to do so.

We still haven't been given all the details ... The latest witness statements say that the man was floored and shot in the head 5 times.

He was apparently connected with the bombings, he was running away and jumped the ticket barrier ... We are still waiting to see what sort of immediate danger he presented.

Paul.is almost imposible . and the having a gun lock up in some gun club safe is useless . and by the way prior to the 1980s british were petty much free to buy any gun you could by here in the state until your socialist facist goverment clamp down and made people with expensive semi auto rifles like FN FAL "the british version LAR " have welded into a useless junk or have them destroy.

The bottom line is that today represented a sad day for us ... Sad because it demonstrated a war starting to take place on the streets of London.

It's quite simple really as to why there's no possible reason they should have shot him.

First of all why was he running? He might have had a bomb. Then again it might have been because he was of an ethnic origin against which a lot of people are on a blanket vendetta, because he was scared of armed men (these were plain clothes officers as I understand it) it running towards them. Perhaps he thought he'd make a quick getaway from the police because he was evading train fares or guilty of pickpocketing or some other small scale crime - it really could be that simple.

Secondly, even if we do assume he's guilty. 1.) Do you really want to risk detonating the explosives? and 2.) don't you want to take him for questioning?

They said on the news that he wasn't one of the guys responsible. They shot him because he didn't stand down when they asked him too. The guy was asian, what if he didn't speak english. I guess they have to shoot first and ask questions later but christ i hope they are as sure as they can be. They shot the guy 3 times in the head.

it was five head shots so not that much chance of setting off a explosive belt .

and if he was a bomber would you be able to take him for questioning, pointing a gun at him would have no value as he planned to die anyway .

its tricky to say whats the right thing to do, I would imagine it likely that you will shoot innocent men but if you dont shoot someone who you may think is a bomber you will get more people blown up.

The police at the moment have secret rules of engagement

I think they were using low velocity weapons ..so needed to shoot him several times.. apparenty it was special services who were after him and had followed him there...they did not pick on some 'random' asian guy..

I didn't say they picked on some random asian guy. I simply stated that he was asian and they shot him dead, that he wasn't who they were after, after all. I just hope he was a threat in some way to justify the action taken. I hope he wasn't just a tourist or a person of no threat who ran for another reason.

Have you heard all the acronyms the goverment have for certain things/groups/projects .. i heard loads last night.. i was slightly drunk so can't remember them..but there are loads. The Jankel armoured vehicles are quite impresive also.

Under secret guidelines codenamed Operation Kratos, armed officers were instructed that they should shoot to kill suspected suicide bombers. “The most effective way of dealing with someone with explosives is to shoot them in the head,” said the officer.

S019 commanders also sent armed teams onto the streets of London in four Jankel armoured vehicles, bought by Scotland Yard last year for this eventuality. The vehicles are designed to protect their passengers from the impact of a suicide bomb blast.

Inside each vehicle were marksmen and women from the elite 72-man cadre of Specialist Firearms Officers (SFOs). The SFOs are divided into six teams of 12 which have been given different colour-coded names. They are armed with Glock pistols, Heckler & Koch MP5 semi-automatic machineguns and G3 short-barreled rifles, which are small enough to be carried discreetly in a shoulder holsters. The rifles, equipped with “red dot” sights, use “frangible” ammunition that releases all its energy in the target’s body, instead of passing through it and endangering nearby civilians.

Bugger me, all this fire power in London. I know it's necessary, but even though all this won't stop us Aussies from coming there, it's still unreal.
The cricket is suppose to be front page for god's sake.
