You asked why Americans are patriotic and here's why. Right now we are a country at war, but if it weren't for the media, there would be nothing to clue me in to that reality. This is only possible because we are somewhat aggressive when it comes to foreign affairs. Sure, it's not the best thing but it shows the government cares about its people, which is more than can be said for many of the European nations who have chosen to ignore a very real threat. Even I don't support the war in Iraq and think it was a terrible mistake (I don't think there is a single person who doesn't see the war in Iraq as a mistake, even in our own government), but any government that woudn't back the war in Afganistan is spineless. Which brings me to my next point. If Bush is a war criminal, what does that make Tony Blair? A war criminal's bitch.

Also, I am proud of the fact that our country began with a constitution that was years ahead of its time and the fact that it is continuously changing to adapt to an ever changing world. I love the fact that there are numerous television/radio shows that are 100% dedicated to mocking our government. I like the fact that after Europe crapped out on my ancestors, America gave them the better life that they were looking for.

There's a reason why there are so many more people immigrating to the United States than there are leaving the country. It's because America really is a great country. Sure it has its problems, but I love my country and if you think I should be anything other than patriotic then you can go fuck yourself.

 

No one on here is going to be able to give you a complete rundown of either country's taxes. That's why some people make careers out of sorting through other people's taxes. One thing that I CAN tell you for sure though, is that if your country has socialized health care, you can be sure that you pay for it out the ass when it comes time to pay your taxes. And another thing, since you stated that you think socialized health care is the only way to go. Government provided services are notorious for valuing nothing other than efficiency. The result of which is lower quality care when it comes to health services. You point out that everyone gets the same care, but it's equally important to recognize the fact that everyone receives equally mediocre care.
