pfft. please. a guy standing there with a pink, girlie drink teasing someone for drinking a girly drink is irony. embrace it. it's obvious to both parties and highly amusing. it depowers the whole concept.
What is your big picture? You are saying this is just part of being a "man"? If you yourself don't see any drinks as girly, why draw the seperation in the first place? See where I'm going?
It reminds both parties that the concept exists and is in some way acceptable. Just a matter of thinking about what you say and why you are saying it. Why can't 2 guys drinking pink drinks with pink umbrellas simply say "mmmm tasty"? The idea is to erase the mentality from your mind so that it may not continue in any way shape or form... same way with racism - you don't stop racism by calling everyone racial names in jest, you stop it by ceasing all that draws a seperation in that regard... as long as the seperation is drawn, it will still exist.
i dont' draw the separation - i use other peoples separation and make fun of it and i did say what up nigga to my boys back in high school, who happened to be black - their is a difference in ****** and nigga i don't have a big picture...i am just me. i dont' worry about what society tries to tell me how to be a man is.
By simply acknowledging the existance you are drawing the seperation and continuing the idea... read my above post. Nigga may have a different tone, but it still means quite the same thing... why not just say "whats up"? if you yourself continue such ideas, it will be passed onto the next generation, and so forth and so on.... or you can choose to stop such destructive ideas yourself.
because there's OTHER guys there who take it seriously. mocking the whole concept in front of them, who care, while doing whatever the fuck you want doesn't mock yourself, it's mocks THEM. and they need it.
Why the emphasis on being overtly politically correct, Cranky? It's political correctness that contributes to racial tension. Don't be so preachy. Like the Bee Gees said in that one song, "it's only words." It's far worse to become part of the mind police than it is to use words which are commonplace in hip-hop culture.
I go back to racism... the way to make it go away is not to make fun of it... it is simply to stop drawing the seperation in the first place... we are all individuals - simple as that. Nobody is born with the idea of racism - its learned... the way to stop it is to stop teaching it to the next generation who may interpret it as their free will allows them. Now take what I just said, put it into the context of *anything* that is known to cause major societal issues... the next generation could *actually* grow up "better" than ours - instead of the same shit coming from a different pigeon.
The negative connotation behind that word will never be allowed to go away. The whole idea of a "bad" word is not that it is somehow "bad"... it is that there is a negative connotation associated with it - and there are better choices to get your point across.
pfft. it's not racism. no one is getting lynched for having a cocktail. you oversimplify racism if you put both these concepts in the same pigeonhole in your head.
its a different word, with a different meaning what does it mean when a black friend says what up nigga to me?
Both are learned concepts that society pushes upon the next generation so that they may continue... nothing more nothing less.
Its not a different word, no matter how much you wish it to be. You would most definitely not go to the southside of chicago , walk into a corner store (or sto, different word right?), and holler out WHATTUP MY NIGGASS!!! You'd get your white ass kicked, and perhaps killed. A black guy calling you a "nigga" is asserting his power to assign that term to you, while you can NOT asign that term to him. Its belittling, and should not be tolerated.
hahahae...man...i'm talking about my friends...not some random black guys out in chicago don't make this more complicated my friends were not asserting no power...its not the same word, no matter how much YOU wish it to be...it isn't. it just isn't.
every concept is a learned concept. and the concept that you're laboring under is also learned and not univerally correct. you are wrong. a man meets his friends and teases a friend about what his drinking while drinking something ALSO questionable to the other guys? no man, you're wrong.
No matter how much you wish it to be a different word, it IS the same word that is EXTREMELY hurtful and belittling. Whether or not you assign Fuck to mean "an oak tree", thast not what is commonly accepted. Your crew may believe "nigga" to mean "buddy"... but there are places in the world where *you* could call someone that and get shot. My point is, why choose a hurtful word (even if it doesn't hurt yourself - there are other people in the world, ya know) when there are thousands of other ways to say "friend". Carry that mentality to "girly" drinks... and you have become a truly considerate person and are working toward a better world.
