Indeed, ofcourse you can go overboard... but look at this like Stomp, or the blue man group, those are the same "genes" as those african or brazillian or where ever street artist slamming away on cans and barrels. All music is one essentially...

There once was a note, Listen...

    ..

    OHM....

    ;)

it actually is the stuff like, ozric tentacles which probabloy the first band in the world that did this kind of sound (they are so old they even have influenced a whole range of trance artists), that got me into jamband kinda stuff, cuz the dead an phish never really did it for me, man this must be pure blasphemy to most jamband folks around here!

It would be boring if every single jamband just did exactly what the Dead did. They have to do take new things and incorporate it into their own music.

in terms of witnessing a "live" show, i prefer a good livetronica band (zilla, lotus, pnuma, the join, sts9, ozric, eoto, etc etc) rather than a good jam band (phish, raq, motet, umphreys, moe, bisco, tea leaf, u melt, garaj mahal, etc etc etc etc etc etc)

though listening to a recording may be different (zilla for example doesnt neccessarily sound that great on record but live they are the absolute pinnacle). though theyre obviously some exceptions...

what it really comes down to is.....damn. everyone has their own opinion and taste of music, no one's is better than the other. just different.

arm pits, opinions are like armpits.

now, I love me some Travis, and Jamie too, and I've faithfully schlepped along to many ..uh... strange ... evenings in Boulder.
I think I was at the first Zuvuya show, or number two. That begot Zilla, which begot EOTO. And Kimock with these guys is sublime.

I also love to catch Bassnectar/ Lorin and I had long stretches with STS9 and Signal Path.
I think with organic drums, I'd be a complete freak for the livetronica sort of drill, but there is NOTHING that will fill like an improv live instrument band, for me.

Totally agree. Particle was hands down my favorite concert to watch, yet I only listen to one of their mp3s.

from a musicians perspective, its always fun to expand into new genres...

So what's the score, what's the word?
Are we all okay with "Digital influances" in our jam bands? as long as they put some live soul in it? Yes/no?

may I show you people something...
Think about whatever it is you think you know, about jam bands, life, the universe and everything...
...alright...? ...now listen to this... (right click, save as, my gift to you lovely people, hope you enjoy... some comments would be welcome, look us up!)

i think most of the electronic sounds in the jam world are very weak. bands like STS9 are so boring. they never peak and there sounds are so generic and sound like they are from the mid 90's.

the electronic-style-jambands really need to get some dirt in there sound. they are way to sterile. and STS9 uses way too much sub frequencies....taking what could be wonderful bass, into a disgusting wash.

Lotus is also way too sterile. they need to de-game boy there sound a bit.

when Phish inquired the electronic style jam, they did it right. check out some 1999 shows and you will see what i mean...

*sigh* Yeah, that's been said a 1000 times, i trying to get a little discusion going here.

Do people even bother reading any of these posts?
    Given it a listen?
Are my posts invisable or what?

Seems every one just drops there opinion, often same as above, and runs off...

i don't know what your talking about....i gave you answers to your previous post....

you asked if we were ok with it....yeah, i love digital stuff....i love electronica and bands that inquire it.

but STS9 is shit. so damn boring. and it has to do with there lack of true exploration and i find there sounds (choice of synths and tones) to be awful.

when lotus played sea of dreams the guitar player actually kicked on a overdrive pedal and the jam really picked up. they started into some new territories. Sector 9 plays it way too safe....

    Well alright then...excuse me

You're right but maybe if you take into acount that it's ALL 100% live uncut improv, maybe one can look and listen past the fact that it's just a one micer.
The sound is"alright" with headphones on, you you play a bit with the equaliser, It'll be well worth it, you won't be dissapointed and you'll be rewarded if you stick around till the end...;)
