I guess coming from you, I'm suppose to consider this a complement. The Bible says what it says and what it says is correct. I've already admitted that everything I've said about the Bible could be incorrect and still you try and turn this into some kind of personal attack, for what purpose? Honestly, I don't know what you want, when discussing the Bible I've tried to be as true to what the Bible says as I can. Trying not to just come up with something just off the cuff but have tried to research to make sure what I post agrees with what is said throughout the whole Bible and not just in the parts under discussion. I've tried even to be very careful about the words I use because it seems even my word usage can be a subject for personal attack and when I used winks to lighten the mood a little, suddenly they were knowing winks that signal arrogance. Really if you want a discussion or conversation fine but if all you want to do is force me to knuckle under to your will, I've got better things to do than to be repeatedly abused by you.
I would like to hear a perspective other than your own regarding what the Bible might mean. You seem somewhat resistant to the idea. If you can interpret that as a personal attack, then that is a mark of arrogance.
I'm not resistant to it a bit, go find one. And what I consider a personal attack is your nearly constant implying I'm arrogant etc. I think you may be a lot of things but I don't waste time and energy constantly nagging about it.
Even if I am arrogant, how does your bringing it up, help or advance the discussion? As I pointed out, it's just a waste of time and energy and just drags the discussion down. Is "winning" a discussion really that important to you? That seems a bit arrogant to me but must not be because you think it's OK.
Alls I got to say on this subject (I'm a Christian) is that there is a HUGE difference between the church and the bible. If you have bad experiences with a church (as I have as well) please don't think it's the bible's fault. The bible is sweet, gentle and forgiving. The church is condemning, mean and dissolute. A wise man once wrote... "More souls will be lost to the pulpit than in any other way." If you want to read a little bit about the science of creation (said with tongue firmly planted in cheek) check out the first chapter of my next book. It's somewhat scientific, but I tried to make it readable. --> CLICK -
I too believe the Bible is not the problem. I feel those who follow the Bible and what it says rather some kind of church doctrine come to find that the Bible is truly the Word of God.
Fine, I'll consider myself uninvited and leave the discussion and let other Christians carry on the discussion, if they so choose.
I'm amazed, it seems you need to find some way to use everything I say or do to insult me. Anything else you want to add while you're at it. PS Perhaps my presence is not the reason that no one will discuss this subject with you, it may be I'm the only one that will put up with you.
oh god here comes the sly winking. if I didn't know any better OWB I'd say you were trying to seduce him
Maybe atheists should region the church and write a new lot. It could not be any worse that what has already been written. I shore all of us here could pen a chapter.
Hello sir, hope you're OK? You are still into the Bible, aren't you? I'll be glad to help where I can. So... Sorry if I repeat what was told before in this thread, but I cannot read it all at one try, I'm growing sleepy as I try. 1. Revelation is about the things to happen in "the Lord's day", including the end of this wicked system. It describes the end of Satan and the restoration of humankind to the blessed state. It also contains instructions for those living in those "last days". It then gives to understand, that AFTER the battle of Armageddon (which is still in the future) "other scrolls" will be opened (Rev 20:12). Let's wait, then ;-). 2. The Hebrew Scriptures (aka "Old Testament") explain a lot about God's ways and views, it also contains important prophecies. The Christian Greek Scriptures contain the teachings of the Messiah and new commandments and instructions for Christians, they also explain much about what could be derived from the Hebrew Scriptures. Both parts together have enough for us to understand God's views, his purpose; it gives enough wisdom for "a man of God to be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work" (says 2 Tim 3:16,17). And God is NOT silent either, he's helping through his holy spirit, as he did in the 1st Century. It is this very spirit, which helps sincere ones to understand the true meaning of the Scriptures. Then there is prayer. These are absolutely necessary for a Christian, as Jesus gave to understand. With these you have enough in the Bible as it is. 3. Then again, in Christianity "knowledge" is not everything. Faith and right motivation are crucial to the right understanding, and it is God who grants it to them whose heart is in the right condition. Paul foretold in his letter to the Corinthians (1 Cor 13:8), that "prophecies will be done away with". He was referring to the time, when prophecies as he knew them would be no more. Obviously, we are living in such times. Hope this helped a bit? Sorry for being a bit late into the thread...
