http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Babel The word 'german' has it's root in latin, 'deutsch' in... deutsch or in english: german edit: I personally think it's best to change the word dutch to netherlandish. Dutch people don't call themselves dutch. Perhaps we could get rid of the words german/Germany as well and globally call it just like it is: Deutschland. Although 'german(y)' seems to cause less confusion than the word 'dutch'
Hello, makes kind of sense. We -here in Tyskland- tend to speak about Holland and the Hollaenders, missing the point that most people in the Netherlands aren't from Holland. It's not easy . Same thing with the UK and England. Odon once posted a coloured map and/or a set diagram to clarify that. Regards Gyro
Tyskland? Is that swedish for Deutschland? You learn something new everyday And yes, it seems the Netherlands are internationally overall better known as Holland.
Hello, no, I'm not in or from Sweden. Currently I have some communication going on with a Swedish company. We usually use (some kind of ) english language, but we learn new words from Swedish or German every now and then . Regards Gyro
Hello, which is nearly the same as being Dutch as we might have learned in this thread . Regards Gyro
I thought so, but when he started using swedish I thought perhaps he's an imported one You knew all those things about William of Orange already?
just read the whole thing, thought it a bit interesting... learned a bit. but still dont know why the dutch dont admit they are german. it does sounds strange typing that though being that if they were german that i would have said.......i still dont know why the germans dont admit they are german.
