Why do hippies have long hair?

i dont like the supoer shot hair look on anyone im sorry. like buzz or that front flip on front .. but thats just me.

 

Because it's liberating. To just be natural. I was going bald though and I cut mine, it hangs in a fat braid on my wall. People probably think I am normal now, cause at the same time I cut my beard too. But I am growing that back.

 

Not all hippies have long hair. I have short hair because it stays out of my way. Different people have different preferences.

I honestly think short hair is disgusting Makes me want to puke. Like guys that go and get a haircut every week... a major turnoff. It's straight-laced, and a conformity to society's standards. I hate people who live to please society.

It's natural, beautiful and free. I think it's very beautiful. it is natural, isn't it? If you let it grow, it would grow. I love people who are natural and liberated.

 

If having long hair consist in making you a free spirit I might lost some points about what hippies truly stand for. Someone can cut his hair every week because he likes it and not for pleasing society, the fuck is that man, respect people's choices. Someone want long hair, he should, someone want short hair, he should, it's just some fucking hair, not politic. Whatever you like is cool to me.

You have a point, but I think it was because "they could". I really don't think that hair was ever a requirement to be a hippie. When a guy goes bald, does he become ineligible to be "hip"? That would just be wrong. Allen Ginsberg didn't exactly have great hair. I doubt if anyone would disqualify him.
Having long hair doesn't make you "hip" any more than having short hair makes someone a cop.
Long hair used to be a real affront to the establishment. (for those that were able to grow it) Now, it's just hair.

Thinking you're a hippie just because you have long hair, do drugs, wear the clothes etc...that's kinda' petty if you ask me. I'd rather be a hippie because of a wish for peace, than for purely cosmetic reasons.

No where have I ever heard that having short hair means you're conforming with society. And a lot of this open minded stuff that everyone is talking about, doesn't exactly exists, as i'm reading this topic, on this forum.

Then again, I may just be ignorant.

 

Well (more so at the time of the hippies) isn't "guys have short hair" an unspoken rule? To most people, guys are supposed to have short hair. I think that's wrong. Grow your hair

Being "free" or "open minded" or whatever, means to me, going your own way.
So "free people", from my point of view, can definitely have short hair if they just want to. Free people, I think, do whatever they want.
Some people just don't want long hair, and I respect that aswell as I respect people with long hair.

Sounds like most of you people want to impose a regulation that requires everyone to have long hair. That's really open minded, free and natural of you.That way in order to conform or please you, everyone would just have to grow long hair somehow. Are you listening to yourselves? Short hair should be illegal? So, you guys are into freedom? hmm..

 

nah. I don't care what people do with their hair. But I think it looks better than short hair. Keeps my head warm.
