if i'm no higher than a housecat on the hierarchy, and no higher than your mountain lion, why am i supposed to stop hunting?
hey Trish I eat chicken now for the first time in my life. Fish feel pain. I was wrong just having a hard time admitting I am veering off of being a life-time vegetarian
Hierarchies: I'm a biology major, and I'm very knowledgeable about trophic levels and ecology, but I don't think of it as a "hierarchy", because that has the connotation that one "level" is better than another- like lords and surfs or something... Everything is connected, the earth consumes us and we consume the earth and many things happen in between. But if we can live healthfully on a lower trophic level, and to eat on a higher trophic level causes excess pain, the most ethical thing to do is to eat on the lower trophic level. That basically is everything I believe on this topic in a nutshell.
i do. i know better than to post over here, but the tag line just CAUGHT me. i respect your way of life and your reasons for it, though i'm of a different bent.
aw, wow... a person that can admit being wrong. i respect that. for real. hey, why did you decide to start eating chicken? just wondering.
actually when kc first told me she hunted i had the same reaction BUT then i found out that that is pretty much the only time that her family eats meat... and im thinking.... its actually better in a way then people who go to the grocery store and buy and eat factory farmed meat all the time.
mmmmmm aboot to make me some rice a roni with saute'd garlic and jalepeno, and frozen garlic/red&green peppers caulliflower/asparagus thrown in for good measure then I am gonna make Tuna and Cream of Asparagus soup over bowtie noodles. Yummy for me!!!! now some of you veggies would consider that veggie, right?
I agree. the roni-rice didnt really turn out..it was good and all, but I couldnt taste the jalapeno at all.
So if it was a choice between your life or the life or a tree, who dies? What about you or a snail? You or a fly? You or a cat? You or a lion? You or me?
That question is irrelevant. Because abstaining from killing others does not imply you're going to die in their place... If that wasn't so, I wouldn't be alive right now! And stephanieissomewhere said we should "minimise the harm/impact"- NOT commit suicide for other animals or humans. I'm not sure you're picking up the real point here. You're question is on the same level as if one were to ask "Should we rape people... or not reproduce at all and die out?!" You don't have to go to the most harmful extreme just to "get things done", whether that be obtain nutrients, etc. You can live and be happy while minimizing the suffering you inflict on others. THAT's the point being made here.... not "let's sacrifice ourselves".
