buy the way i am all into the punk music and the old hippy music and last time a checked clothing dident matter its about what u belive
i dont know who else has said this, someone else has mentioned punks rebelling against hippies, but it's because punks are somtimes the kids oh hippies jerry garcia's daughter is into rap, and doesnt like jam bands. she talked to 2pac
Punks hate hippies because they think it's super cool to be anti-everything. I think it's a pretty stupid concept, but hey what else should I expect from whiney dudes singing over three chord progressions for 2 minutes at a time?
Punks are punks. punk (uncountable and countable; plural punks) 1. (uncountable) Wood so decayed as to be dry, crumbly, and useful for tinder; touchwood. 2. (uncountable) A fungus (Polyporus fomentarius, etc.) sometimes dried for tinder; agaric. 3. (uncountable) An artificial tinder. See amadou and spunk. 4. (countable) A prostitute; a strumpet. 5. (countable) A person who is unwillingly sodomized in prison. 6. (countable) A homosexual male who is penetrated during anal sex. 7. (uncountable; current in western society from the mid 1970s) A social and musical movement that, originally, primarily involved rebelling against the established order such as wearing torn clothes, embracing discordance, and anarchy, and later mainstreamed as a fashion or style. 8. (countable) A worthless person. 9. (countable) A unique person. 10. A genre of music known by its electric guitars and drum beats
i think lables are what's fucking up revolution from suceeding. all the kids are to busy trying to conform to sterotypes and fitting in with their cliques instead of working together to fight for a better society.
I've heard from people older then me that are DIE HARD PUNK that the reason punk hates hippies is that in the 60's hippsters embrassed everything, peace, love, earth, moon, water, drugs, free lovin', and very very improvised music. Punk is against all of this, they don't like jams very to the point and very angery music blame is put on the hippies for all the crap that is wrong with their generation. Today's punk is as bad as a boy band I'm afraid. The Remones or the Clash would be rolling in their graves to see where their music has gone. From Anti establishment to Sum 41, come on these guy's and all the others like them make me sick because they are posers unoriginal. Me for instance, I'm not a hippie, I wish I was but I'm not. I don't think a lot of people are on this site. But I do have some qualities that make me fit in on this site. So I am just trying to be me, maybe if some of the punk bands would stop playing what the record companies want them to play and start making stuff that people might remember 10 years from now then maybe the world would get along better. Hippies and Punks rejoice!
i know lots of older people that used to be all into punk and just stop dressing to kill like everyone usually does. shit changes, you get older and grow up. who gives a fuck what kinda music someone else listens to
Sadly, most of the posters (or should I say 'posers') in this thread just don't get it. It's no surprise since punk has always been one of the most underground and misunderstood subcultural scenes. Most people today think (as many of you mentioned) Blink 182 is punk. There are others who simply think punk is dead. Both of these generalizations fall way short. The views of both are pretty much the same. The music is a vehicle to get the message across. As a very special someone once sang... "Stand up for your right". The way they express themselves is probably where the line is drawn... Hippie = passive Punk = agressive (and not often in a violent way) If one simply applies these 'labels' based on superficial stuff like the hairsytle and clothes they wear or the music they listen to, less power to them. As far as who likes who... that can only be determined on an individual to individual level. Personally I find it disturbing that so many people here (a 'hippy' forum... HELLO) make such judgements when they don't even know who they are yet. At least it's still free speech, so here's my two cents... Find yourself before you judge and label others.
it's true and false... well the usual thing to do for a punk group of 77 -78 was to hate everything that was a "jam" style music...and even more ...they hate everything that was hippie...but it was not so real... In fact The Sex Pistols who always told that they hate hippies...a few years later they recognize that since they were teen they were fan of Pink Fairies, Pretty Things, Pink Floyd ! and even Van Der Graf Generator!! (and some others that i don't remember) In fact they respected and love a great part of hippie bands...and hate too probably another great part but don't forget that behind their official primitive official point of vue ...after the rush that was the sex pistols they recognize what they really love...and it include some hippie bands...
yeah it's sad how half of modern punk group became "angry manufactured boys band" Even if garage rock is back... every angry teen should get back to all those punk records from 77 to 82 ......this is definitly the cream....
I could believe that about the sex pistols and even bands such as lower class brats, casualties, and the businness. I didn't get that tryp of vibe from crass or the dead kennedys. And Anti-Flag they seem to have hippie views in my opinion.
Good God this thread comes in time...I almost got beaten up by a punker last night, i got in a bit of an argument about the war...and after she called me everything hippie-insulting, and then I told her i don't reply at sucj htings coz i'm a pacifist she laughed her butt off and left
People who really hate hippie...has probably a deep problem...(no i'm talking seriously) People who hate them are probably jaleous of of what they reprezent... a liberated human...because maybe themselve don't reach this level of human being...so rage and jealousy became the poison that they threw at our faces. Everybody want to be free...even punk...but they often got it deep inside themselves... to be free is a precious gift...we are here on earth probably to learn how to use it ...life after life ...chatper after chapter (and the radio play: "Chapter 24" by Pink Floyd)
Most likely she was a fashion punk. She probably represented getting drunk and bragging about how punk she is cause she had studs, mohawk, spiked, pink. blue, hair or whatever she looked like. I listen to punk, but I like the punk that has a good message to it and they sing about real shit other than getting drunk and fucking shit up. I also dig bands like pink floyd, beatles, hendrix, etc. she sounds like an idiot don't worry about her.
