The only thing I don't like about Paul is the fact that he wrote that horrible "Freedom" song after 9/11. [IMG]

Yeah............& the damnable: 'Rupert & The Frog Song' .

Someone said on the thread that he has an 'arrogance' in his attitude.I sort of agree. When he is being interviewed he always talks down to the interviewer- like You can't possibly know what He knows!!!!.
John Lennon was never like that.He was always open- maybe too open! .George Harrison could be snidey but Ringo Starr is always a 'Gentleman' in interviews.

I deeply admire Paul for his radiance & charm in the 'ego-centred' & 'posturising' world of Rock n' Roll.He keeps his charm whilst other rock stars roll around in the gutter for kicks & photo-opportunities.

Paul is a 'bourgeoise rock star'.He is surrounded by sycophants that feed his ego.
Do you think that he would come onto this Web-Site to respond to us?.
NOT ON YOUR NELLY!!!. - Because It would be beneath him to do so.

After 9/11 many stars gave time to help raise cash for the NYFD & the bereaved families etc. Yes that was noble but I think that writing a song about 'Freedom' as if Paul was the only one aware of people's loss of freedom at that moment seems a bit ....er ....false???,or,maybe patronising.

I agree about the 1980s output:
'Ebony & Ivory' :- Yes the sentiment is noble but the schmaltz & "I know because I've been there & u haven't" - attutude prevails as thick as syrup.

...........Hey , we'd better tread carefully or the Paulie-gang will bash us!!!. :)

True, but If he wasn't so arrogant he would come on this web-site to say "Hi" & send everyone an autograph.
Some rock stars talk to their fans!!!.

Can you honestly think of any other rock star who would do that? All I'm saying is that there are more arrogant rock stars out there, probably none of whom are as talented as McCartney, who are just as or more stuck up and egocentric and treat their fans like cattle. It's unrealistic to expect him to be perfect to everyone all the time, like some kind of saint. He's a bloody rock and roller, no one in the business is that nice! And besides, don't you think the other Beatles had a bit of a superiority complex as well? Well, except for Ringo maybe. He's 1/4 of the greatest band in history, and been around for so long, longer than what most people last for in the business, so he does have some bragging rights. And no, I'm not some kind of McCartney nut, it's just my simple opinion ;)

Fair comment but I'm sorry that I don't really agree. Is McCartney so big a star even more reason why he can't be excused for being such a 'rock- snob' .If he is sooooooo great a person - he should understand it is because the fans stayed loyal to him over the decades.
Other big name pop stars who have been known to communicate on web-sites include: Cliff Richard, David Bowie & Pete Townshend.
I am sure there are many many others who find time to talk to their fans on the world wide web.

Macca is due to headline the 'Live 8' gig in Hyde-Park on July 2nd.He'll probably be air-lifted in ,then air-lifted out with the fans kept well back.
    Who cares anyway.

Kind of off-topic, but I know that when the internet was still young, Lou Reed participated in at least one chat room meeting with fans.

and the majority of rock stars don't talk to their fans... its about the music, and delivering that music to the fans... who really cares if they don't personally talk to them? should they really have to?

I think the main reason people rag on Paul is because all he ever wrote was "silly love songs"

    /still fun songs

Well, that's not true, though. Anyone with with even slight knowledge of the Beatles and Paul McCartney should know that he wrote/writes far more than just love songs.

I like Paul's songs, but I can't seem to think of any deep songs he wrote. And yes John wrote alot of silly love songs in the bands early years, I mean they were pretty much a "boy-band" until Rubber Soul.

I'm not ragging on anybody here, I love all of the beatles music, as the beatles and otherwise.

I think his early solo albums are filled with "deep songs." Well, I guess it depends on what you consider to be deep.

paul is just too poppy for me, thats all... even those songs you listed chuck, i dont listen to em much because they are insanely poppy, and while thats good for selling records, i really dont care much for it... in fact, id rather listen to twenty minute jams or some mean ol' jump jazz than the beatles, but i do like em... least every once in a while
