Why do young people always post pictures of themselves online?

i think it's just that communication is changing. now we can not only talk to each other, we can see each other, with profile pics, webcams, etc. just like we'd see each other in a face-to-face coversation in 1880. only difference is now it's online

Agreed. I wish more people were threatened by those damn ID chips.

I've never finished that movie. I tried to when I was a Kubrik fan, and I kept falling asleep (same with Dr. Strangelove) turned out I had mono. Ever since, every time I try to watch it, something comes up.
Now, I can never decide if it's worth the trouble. Dr. Strangelove is probably one of the best movies ever made, but most of the people that love it also love A Clockwork Orange, one of the worst films ever made - so I don't know if I can trust anyone on 2001.
Eh, most of my friends haven't added any pictures since highschool, with the exception of some girls who have hundreds (I mean that literally) of pictures.
It seems mostly like it's for the singles, narcissists and people that are heavily into the online life that do it.

I can definitely see where our perspectives are leading us to different views here =)

Because they are comfortable with it. They have had some form of this technology available their entire life. They do online what we did WITH our friends at the same age. Hey...go outside and see your friends!

Nah. It seems to me like the initial "how awesome" has worn out for most and they are more like "shit, I only use that to stay connected with long distance friends".

Yeah that seems to be a stance for most of my friends too. Just to at least be able to get a hold of people that you aren't really around as much or whatever the case may be. I do think cell phones subtract from social experience though sometimes, it seems some people will literally just text nonstop and not really pay attention to anything else at times. See school for more details.

I agree that may have once been the case but now all you see on social networking sites are pictures of people with friends and updates arranging more social gatherings! I've found them to be an asset when used right and when living an otherwise healthy social life.

^^It's official. We now live in a world where a creepy internet come-on from a faceless stranger is considered a compliment.

Some of you girls need to develop some self-esteem posthaste.

I am laughing my ass off over here - and I'm sober

You guys are like the same age, but BBAD's still hip, yo =P

I found the hopeless attempt sorta tacky, not creepy, but definitely not thanks worthy..
But as far as the self-esteem thing - that's totally baseless - the same sorta things happen just as much offline - if anything, being able to use such things as ego boosters seems to suggest she's quite in touch with her self-esteem management

    (shit that was worded poorly)

Im often in pictures that other people post from my rugby team, like in game shots and stuff. Plus I was a canoe guide in the BWCA and I have a bunch of pics up so that my crews could get access to my photos, an I theirs. email usually cant handle large amounts of pictures transfers, so I just have them up on facebook.

I would say except for the canoeing trips I didnt post any of the pictures I have on the internet

One cool thing I just thought about pictures being shared on the internet is that I dont have to sit through all of my friends vacation photo presentations anymore. Before social networking, or with my parents haha, is that after someone goes on a trip they always have to share there photos with anyone that will spend even 5 minutes with them. They recant all of these stories that are hilarious to them or what have you and you have to sit there bored out of your skull. With social networking they can start into the vacation photo thing and you can say oh i saw your pictures on line and then either not listen to it at all or at least get a really condensed version of the epic journey they may or may not have taken. haha kind of stupid but i dunno trying to be the ying to everybody's yang

    A good trend issue.

Though the only thing i have a problem with is the "nude type pictures"....dont get it.

Though i dont mind people puttin pictures of themselves on the net...it can be a good way of keeping in contact with friends or communicating with ppl...
