I agree with Oz! Unless a group speaks out against those who abuse it's name -- the whole group is guilty of supporting the abuse. Like the Catholic church and boy-raping priests. Until the organization holds these priests properly accountable - the whole organization is to blame. But I also stand by my argument, that just by it's very name, feminism is matriarchal.
feminism isn't all organized or incorporated, either, like the church, so it's a bad analogy. there's all kinds of women here disagreeing with the crazies. thus, speaking out against the abuse. but since i'm not a dues paying member of some crazy faminazi run group it's not like i can wrest control from their hands. all i can do is say "them bitches are crazy." then go about my merry way voting for things i find valuable and helping out causes i find worthwhile.
I could give you a million others. All psychiatrists that don't stand up against the fields' oligarchical state are at fault for it's evils. woman =/= feminist feminist =/= woman And all of us citizens are at fault for America's current oligarchical state -- so, you're not going to convince me that you are doing enough to fight the matriarchy in feminism, simply by not prescribing to those groups. If those groups exist -- why support feminism?
to answer the final question, which seems to be the only pertinent point to me, with a mind to the point that supposedly all Americans are to blame for our state, I can only say you're incorrect. The deliberately ignorant, deliberately uneducated, stubborn and hateful are to blame. It seems overly convenient only because it's so true. Much like the rule of thumb, it made perfect sense to it's supporters. Feminism is a part of humanitarian efforts. Do I think I have it bad? Not at all. But the part of feminism I support, uch like the part of libertarianism I support, is specific people, regardless of gender, sexuality, religion or whatever else I their harmless choices entail should be legalized into misery. I have a son and brothers whom I love fiercely. I also don't want them legalized into misery. Fair is Fair and hate is hate.
Explain this. How can you support a part of libetarianism? Either you choose to support the party despite those things you disagree with - or you don't support it because of those things you disagree with.
I think it's interesting that no one has mentioned the masculinisim movement. Google it. It exists. Would love to discuss that. Is it just as flawed as feminism? Hmmmm......
You can't really have a masculinist movement, it would be considered sexist or unmanly. Men don't like having commitees and organisations to make sure their feelings arn't hurt. We get very little to no support in areas such as sex education.
This. I mean, considering we are the bastards that STILL hold women back, judge them, abuse them, condescend and empower them- how the hell can we legitimately complain about our rights? I used to get literally battered by a woman once upon a time every time she had a period, and the only right I had was to let her decide if she could kick me in the nuts or light matches off my back and use me as a human ash tray
Ha, well I came across the masculinism movement a while ago. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of it or what they thought of it. Apparently, they are just as divided on certain issues as feminists are. For example, they don't seem to take race into consideration. Most articles I've read are now lumping both feminism and masculinism together as "gender ideologies." Masculinism is a response to feminism. It's understandable because there's just as much of a crisis in masculinity as there is in femininity. By the way, I seriously hope you haven't been attacked like that. Yikes!
I know femists are all patriarchy patriarchy patriarchy.. but I have to say: I often feel that the "advanced" world punishes people for being men. First of all you have the manly way of dealing with things, which is to suck it up and do the job - stop whining you sissy. Women are given more lenience to "express" themselves, which is thought to be the reason why women live longer - they share their problems. I have no problem with this, as I really don't like talking things over that much. I am happy to be the typical man never asking for directions etc. The second is that women are the "victims", the injured party. Men are the evil overlords who have surpressed women all these years, and guess what girls, it's time to take back the power! It's this attitude that makes it almost a crime to be an ugly, evil, pervert rapist man beast. Just like it's a crime to be white, the evil whites who surpressed all those brown people. There's a joke that goes something like this: There is a boss who needs to fire one of his staff members, these staff members include: A black man, a woman, a man in a wheelchair and a white man. The white man says "err I think I might be gay". This is the way that we treat minorities and "victims" in that they are almost given a priveledge in order to prove how tolerant and civilised we are. When it comes to feminism - men get left out. We're the enemy, the bad guys, the evil surpressors. There isn't much we can do about this. If you try and be chivalrous, you will get there "so you don't think I can do things for myself huh? you think a woman can't do things?" reaction, but if not then you are a selfish sexist pig who should "be a man" and help a poor lady in trouble. So either way, you lose, you big ugly man beast.
These social movements, all of them, whether it was related to gender, race, or sexual orientation, are relatively "new" in recorded human history. We are living in the aftermath and anytime a social revolution takes place there are going to be growing pains. I can sympathize with what you're saying. No, it isn't fair that men are stuck in this "damned if you do, damned if you don't" paradox. Both genders deal with these issues. A man gets punished if he's too much of a "pussy" or too "tough". A woman gets punished if she's too "slutty" or a "prude". But men, as in individual men walking around on the planet, are not the problem. The Old Patriarchal social structure has changed. That's for certain. But it hasn't totally disappeared. This social structure punishes men and women for straying outside of what is deemed appropriate. There are so many conflicting ideologies in our society that it's difficult to find a balance. There are also several generations living with each other right now. Older generations have different values than younger generations and both can't agree on what equality actually is. Ideally, race and gender (the two most visible characteristics of a person) should not be used to either punish or reward a person. One of the issues the masculinism movement points out is circumcision. When a male child is born in the West, that is one time in his life that he has no control over what happens to his body. There may be other times as he grows up, but as a newborn, he's at the mercy of his parents, right? I've often thought of what I would do if I had a son. On one hand, if I don't get him circumcised, will he be angry with me later because his penis doesn't look "normal" and he's ashamed? Or will he be angry with me because I did have him circumcised and he'll feel as if I disfigured him? I really don't know what I would do if I had a son to be honest, but circumcision is certainly something that no male child has a choice in. Male circumcision is certainly an issue that feminists don't really get into. Male and female bodies are different and require different needs. So, there's always going to be a difference there. I really hope one day men and women of all races and sexual orientations can just coexist without demanding one be subordinate to the other. Only time will tell......
Really it is no big deal. I don't know many men who have existential angst over whether they are circumcised or not. I would hope that we would all develop humane orientation.
I constantly wonder if being circumcised hampers my sex life in anyway. For instance, if I could enjoy real sex more, and be less addicted to porn. Or if it could help my control during sex, allowing me to last longer or feel more sensation during sex and stay hard better when I've already cum or I'm intoxicated. I also consistently worry about whether I should circumcise my hypothetical child, because if I don't it could lead to troubles in the lockerroom or bedroom, but not circumcising him is way healthier. I didn't read the full quote though, just responding to what you said. Oh, and I do have generalized anxiety disorder.
I don't worry about that all the time, but it is something to seriously consider when having a male child. I have male friends who don't seem bothered by the fact that they are circumcised, but....I don't know. I guess it's like you were saying, you don't really know if it's a good thing or not. If I ever happen to get knocked up, I'm not giving birth in a hospital. If I do have a boy, the doctors will probably be pressuring me and my partner to have the boy snipped. I'd rather not have that pressure and hopefully make the right decision.
Feminism is supposed to be a social movement based on the equality of gender, the female gender with the male gender. But it's filled with divisions, hypocrisy, and doesn't represent all women. It mostly represents spoiled, middle-class, white women these days.... "Look at me I'm a feminist! I can beat up on this geeky girl! Girl Power!" That's about what it looks like these days or: "I'm an empowered woman. Therefore, I will get breast implants and audition for Girl's Gone Wild." Whatever. Masculinism is a real social movement that is a reaction to feminism. Google it.
They both sound pretty bogus. All that's really needed is humanism. And all that is is respect and consideration of others and their right to make their own choices.
That is really interesting, you would be one of the few I've met who have these thoughts recurrently. Have you witnessed troubles in the locker room from being uncircumcised? You said you have an anxiety disorder. I'm curious, what part of your anxiety is not working properly?
