Uh man, I can't believe you're thinking that says anything.. Billboards only display pop music. Pop music is controlled by media. The media mainly shows what sells, and so they doesn't naturally give a good picture of all today's music...
What I'm thinking it says is that the music in the 60's in the top 40 is the same style of crap on the top 40 of today... there is good music in every era and legends born in each. Thinking good music only comes from one era, is close-minded, or elitist, or both.
I think music sucks now compared to then, at least in America because of the stronghold the federal government and laws in general have taken control of the way we live. Like most people can't even afford to be creative in any fashion, do you know how much crafts cost nowadays? My dejembe was tagged at 350, well worth it no doubt but still. Not only price is an issue but also the fact that creativity isn't encouraged at young ages anymore. I am 27 and I wasn't inspired at all to do anything. I took a sax class in the 4th grade, the next year there was no music classes. I don't even know what goes on in schools now, but I know kids got guns and like to talk about killing, not very familiar to me at all really. People and there true potential are being erased slowly but surely and I know it is about that time for me at least to start hitting up city hall meetings and screaming MY head off at these people until something positive happens, I suggest we all do the same if we really give a shit.
commercialization and over-processing. atleast for mainstream music... still plenty of epic tunes out there tho, just gotta sniff it out
Most of the music is bad today because most of the music industry is 'bad' today. I stopped giving a shit about music I don't like or is bad since I started to only listen to the music I do like. And unfortunately enough there's too much good music around today to get me giving a shit about the bad stuff.
In my opinion, the article seems to display a biased view on music. It is merely the opinion of the writer himself, not necessarily facts. MOST music isn't bad today because, to hear MOST music from this "era", one would need to spend a ridiculous amount of time looking for, and listening to, MOST musicians/bands in order to determine whether or not it's bad. One cannot listen to a few acts from the 21st century and jump to the conclusion that most music from this era "therefore must be bad".
Man, I'm sorry but it really irritates me when people say that music from today is soooooo bad. There is actually a lot of great music from today. There is also some shitty music from today. Just like there was shitty music from the 60s and 70s and shit as well as good music.
Admittedly there is some good music out there... But overall...the mainstream music is so bad because it's just a bunch of bands that want to get famous. I don't think scouts know what to look for; they're all just "professionals" who think they know what to look for to make $$$. And the production SUCKS.
Uhm, they look for selling artists so they do know what to look for. They just have different interests. Yeah, mainstream generally sucks real bad for quite some time now. Why bother with it if it mostly annoys you. There are lots of real bands and artists who don't whore around on tv trying to make their music bearable with their fancy look and music clips.
In my opinion many artists today are all about the cash and less about the music, that makes it for them. The business has become soo commercial is unbelievable. Back in the old days , there were issues, whether it was civil rights, an unjust war, poverty, etc,,, -and many of the best musicians recognized that the best way to get their point across was through music. Of course they did need to eat..so record contracts were needed. Being a relatively new type of booming business , many musicians were taken advantage of ,and didnt really start making $$$ until they started produce sing -and started thier own record labels. It just seems that more raw feelings came out years ago. It seems that as important as cash was, it was secondary when it came to wanting to make a difference . Maybe am I bit naive- -but we have evolved from FREE concerts in the park- to- 1000 dollar seats at Madison Sq.Garden, with a thousand sponsors The times have changed forever-- best, JJack
