Why is the politics forum dead?

Everyone keeps saying this forum was attacked by right wingers, but it really wasn't. A few popped up and got told they were idiots. Besides, you can't have a political debate forum if everyone is agreeing. If it was the right wingers and no one could put up a debate against them that says more for us than the right.

Oh I don’t think ‘attack’ is too strong a work, attacks that were both instinctual and organised.

Forums (of right wingers) were discovered where some were actively recruiting others to come here to attack us pinkos, hippies, liberals etc. And some tried to bring down the site with mass posting (like what Russia did with Lithuania). Skip and others defended the place rather well.

But most of the time it was just animosity, word got round that hipforums was ‘dissing’ Bush and America and they just wanted to let us know what they thought about that.

The 100 post rule mostly got rid of the howlers and the hecklers.

But there were always those that genuinely wanted a debate, who were willing to defend the policies of the Bush Admin, but after a while …they went silent.

Few on the right these days seem actually willing to defend right wing ideology or ideas, oh they’ll tell you how wonderful they are…but they seem unable to defend them.

It’s a matter of those on the right just not being wiling to post because they fear being challenged.

Can the person that closed the thread plaese explain why?

 

Well, apparently it was Israeli agents (me being one) posting from tel-aviv.

In truth, I think it went fairly quiet when Obama came into office.

I wasn't aware of hordes of right wingers trying to defend Bush policies etc.

There were plenty of people willing to support Bush Admin policies from 2001 (and then with lessening enthusiasm) right up to 2005 (remember he won a second term – which is more than he did the first time) it then began to disappear all together.

 

I remember a few I don't remember hordes of them.

I think the reason this forum might have died a little death is because the same conclusions are always drawn...

I wasn't around in 2001. I wasn't even online back then.
I was around from about 2004/5 I was "Matthew" back then.
I'm probably just thinking over the last year or two.
I'll take your word for it about what was occuring all those years ago.

I remember ‘Matthew’ nice you came back but you could have just used that membership, although personally I think ‘odon’ is a lot cooler moniker.

By 2004-5 the 100 post rule had been in place for at least a year or more and things had pretty much quietened down.

No I don’t think people just conclude ‘Fuck America’ although in the past many tried to paint anyone who criticised some US governments or political factions or the policies of US governments or political factions as being ‘anti-American’.

To me it’s a cop out it’s a way for not debating, of running away from debate.

Something both right and left agree on is making pot legal we should really push that on our government. Make it happen folks.

Balbus is right. This place was over run by right wing crazies but the valiant efforts of the left, led by Balbus, eventually drove them out by winning every single argument since October 2001.

Thus the fact that the forum is dead is not a sign of failure, in fact it is proof of what a huge success it has been. All praise to Balbus, our unelected moderator for life.

No, lets be serious. What happened is a perfect parable of socialism. The forum was moderated and regulated to death. So people left. There's other places to debate out there, so people exercised their freedom and walked out.

They say power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. In fact its funny how a tiny amount of power can turn people into vain little Napoleons, who spend their time singing their own praises and having fits when anyone criticises them.

 

He certainly will go on and on and on.

Ok, it is very difficult for me to know what the forum was like in 2001...but surely what was going on in 2001 to 2005 has very little consequence to now.

I didn't particularly take much notice to the politics of moderation...but if that's the reason, then it's a shame.
