When I was first exposed to it, I didn't like rap. I still don't. That does not mean that others shouldn't like it.

Originaly, I didn't think it was "music". It had lyrics and rhythm but no melody. I thought of it as poetry, written and performed by people who didn't want to be called "poets."

Of course, when it got popular (and profitable) a new style of rap appeared. It appeals to me even less. Phoney commercialism can be recognized in any musical style.

I think the bottom line is, if you don't like rap/hip-hop... DON'T LISTEN TO IT! Just like every other genre is music.

There must be something appealing about it if the genre has got this far, even if it doesn't appeal to you.

A hell of alot of work CAN go into producing a track/album.

I feel stupid arguing about this, it's a completely useless topic really...

I like it how people are dismissing all hip-hop because of what mainstream stuff sounds like...

Uh, hey dumbfucks, the same technique applies to rock music!

yeah, the people who already dismiss rap for whatever reason and wont check any other rap out for themselves are already too closed-minded and can't be changed over some message board.

all for the beat. I was raised on country and classic rock. I found you can't really dance to that type of music, so i listen to rap. Girls get naked and dance alot when you listen to rap. Well at least for me. I think everyone forgot about what the question was.

Okay, I confess, I do, on occasion, listen to hip-hop for the music beat, because I love to dance and you know, you just can't really do a dance routine to hard rock or heavy metal. Head bang, yes, but that's not working my whole body. ;)

Rap? I pretty much stay away from that, it's a little too hardcore for me. But hip hop, in some forms, makes for some good dancing/work out music. No real vulgarity though please.

well what are you looking for?

i imagine that most people who hate rap and say its "because of the shit on the radio" really hate it because they dont like the fact that there are rich african americans in this country.

thats a factual lie. the joke is i once had a fight with a racist- probably you.

also how much do you give to charity? how would you react if i said how much i approve of homosexuality? how would you react if i said how much i hate sexism? how would you react if i said that the pope is nazi, and that the next one should be gay and black?

also how would you react to me playing with good friends in reggae band - not out of the question to say that is the good side of black music. and cuban 'Buena vista social club'. and hendrix and jazz acts like miles davids.

just for your sake here we are:[IMG]

you didnt answer my question concerning the rolling stones. if you hate rappers because they are rich while poor people starve, then why dont you hate all rich people? why only the black ones???

    but alright, i'll play, "hippie"

I dont give to any charities persay, but whenever I'm asked for money I always give it to whomever asks... which is why I'm always broke.
    That'd be a major shocker.
    That would surprise me too.
I'd stare at you blankly and eventually poke you with a stick.

You are one sick racist motherfucker. There's such a thing as "black music"??? what the fuck is "white music" then?????
Miles Davis is his name, and there are multitudes of black jazz and rock musicians... Jimi Hendrix isn't the only african american to play guitar, if you can believe that.

    That aint why...
