State and county governments get huge subsidies from the federal government for every person they incarcerate. The more people they arrest, the more money they get from the feds for all these anti-drug projects, and the more people they hire to run the programs. The whole anti-drug thing is an enormous, money making business.
Considering that the medical industry has already been struggling to legalize it, I would have to say yes. Afterall, cannabis is less harmful than tobacco.
I don't have anything to do with pot, but if it were suddenly considered "legal", economic power would shift within countries, and around the globe. Those in power, that have the money right now, don't want that to happen.
Ask yourselves this! If dope were legal, do you think the rich people who import the stuff, like politicians sons and daughters would make anything like the money they are making now if they legalised it? The prices would plummet as tax went on, and therefore for every million $ worth bought it would bring about 60% less incom. No it will not be legalised unless the rich can secure their profit margin on the stuff
It'll be legal, as soon as we cut this bullshit government up and set up something that actually works~
it woulnt ever be because unlike tobaco you can grow weed as well easy as weeds so if it were legal people would just grow the shit so you can't tax it, and the goverment made at least 2-5gs just on me thats one person only with 3 ouncs in the state of IL. So lets say you sell more then 150ps thats going to be like 100g worth of money for the goverment then you got 9/10 of the law as posessions and there are alot of people in jail its a all new war machine. The moderen day great war in my opion or a cold one just something to do so money comes before the next big one. hmm another though I just realized it would be way more understanble to look at goverment policys in algebraic forum make may more sense. P<posions charge> + C <cort cost> + L <lawyer fees> + taxs x 9/10 of convicts=$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$4
everything you take for granted will sooner or later be ancient history. even the human species. so how could this even be a question if looked at in a reasonably broad perspective? i can't believe the immaginationless narrowness that so many humans remain aflicted with. of course i can never understand wanting to empare one's judgement as an end in and of itself either, but the costs of outlawing possession of anything, human as well as economic costs, are just plane absurdly backward headed to perpetuate. =^^= .../\...
I hope the green party will rule soon. But I can't see it happening. Not that I don't want it to happen. I think our government would just tax the shit out of it like they do cigarettes and liquor.
My point exactly, they are spending money. These subsidies are coming from taxpayers pockets. Money that could be going towards countless other illfunded programs instead of towars an impossible goal. The money isn't being generated from the war on drugs, they are the source for the war on drugs. Over $18 BILLION is now being spent each year with a goal for a "Drug Free America." Think about how much good it would do if even 1/4 of that went towards education? And I'll bet that more than a 1/4 of it is going towards cannabis anyway.
Didn't take the time to read the whole thread but post was legalized for a short period of time in the 60s. Just a little FYI and sorry if someone else already said the same thing.
Nope. Not in the good ol' US-of-A. The government sees marijuana as a drug that lowers society. They would never legalize anything they believe is going to degrade/harm our society.
yeah...that makes a lot of fucking sense. I don't care how "medicinal" pot can be, the fact that you're inhaling smoke should lead you to believe that it could cause cancer more than it could help. What a ridiculous notion!
It really depends. I believe it should be legal, not so I can smoke it. I don't get "high" with drugs. However.... I feel that it should be legal to reduce the crime rate; By making it legal, you destroy a large portion of the blackmarket for pot. If I was a pot-user, why would I go to a drug dealer in a dangerous area when I can go to the CVS and obtain some pot? America as a whole didn't learn at all from banning alcohol, and now we are doomed to repeat it. Then you can have taxes on it which would go to the goverment, even though it wind up in Iraq. Because in my opinion, if there's a big blackmarket of something (in this case, pot) then you can get the money being made illegally and use it on something important, like education. Over all, I don't think it would be legal anytime soon because of the people who believe that pot making legal will cause more people to smoke it.
