I agree with your first sentence but would say that then science informs meaning and morality, so I'm not sure where you are going with that last sentence there...

Your example is good, I think with that discovery there must have been some major societal adjustments that occurred, which informed people's sense of meaning and morality. I think the same could be said with LSD, which while a fair amount of people talk about Spiritual experiences from the drug, it is a product of Chemistry. I also think personal computers are another example of Science and Technology prompting another adjustment of meaning and morality for many people.

  3. I was just meaning to say that science's place in informing our meaning and morality is yet to be seen. People are kind of tentative at this point. We don't understand the science and are afraid of what we don't understand. That, and there are a lot of questions yet unanswered, so that people still turn to religion to find the answers. But I think the day might come when science can give us enough answers to satisfy our personal sense of well-being. My hunch is that the place science accords us in the universe will be satisfying and uplifting.

Yeah I think people kind of take their reality for granted without realizing just how deeply it's revolutionizing them. I didn't think of your examples, but they are huge as well.

Not until a time in the far distant future when we ourselves become the Gods, and predispose our biological creations to believe in us and worship us through faith and religion

every belief fades, and is replaced/renewed. i'm sure you can still find followers of kemet, or bon, or zoroastrianism. but you have to look pretty hard and not find very many of them. today's beliefs are neither more nor less mortal, then those forgotten or nearly forgotten of past ages.
