McConnell's vows only matter when his ass isn't on the line, and this is too serious to be ignored. He is quite capable of eating his own words in front of the cameras, but is obligated to play the tough guy. Abusing the office of the president to solicit foreign countries to interfere in our internal politics is insane and cannot be allowed to continue. Reagan traded weapons for prisoners, which was considered bad enough, but this is a call for civil war. The US routinely interferes in the elections of foreign countries, but that can never be allowed to happen here, or the people will lose all confidence in the government.

The Libertarian party might as well hang a sign saying "US Politics for Sale!"

  3. Oh now THAT did not start with Trump. And what kind of dictatorship has term limits? And which party usually brings the issue of gutting term limits up? It's one of Biden's classic tunes.

If he is not answerable to the judicial system, then the constitution and term limits don't apply. Either Libertarians put their dog on a chain, or someone will start killing Libertarians for fun and profit. A dictatorship is not going to fly, nor is soliciting foreign interference in our elections.

Forget about the voters, their votes no longer matter. This is about money and who runs the country. The Pentagon cannot allow other countries to start attacking our entrenched wealth. The international conglomerates would take over the entire country and turn the military into hired thugs, while Caligula does his dance for the mindless mob.

A single election costs a billion dollars, and foreign companies are forbidden from contributing. If they cannot keep foreign countries from promoting whatever candidates they prefer, it will get ugly fast.

Crybaby can be replaced with a cheap microprocessor, but this is exactly what all the fuss is about. It was one thing to know Russian hackers attempted to sway our elections, and another to learn that the Russian government has succeeded in corrupting the Libertarian party and is attempting to throw our elections, pathetic as they are. Libertarians will not be able to live this down, and the entire republican party will demand blood. Not because they think it was wrong, but because nobody but complete idiots will believe a word they say if they don't.

Donald Duck's rating are going through the floor, and the rest of the party is sure to follow. They can either try to do the ritual thing, or lose all the progress they've made.

  7. We heard this vein of polling results in 2016. Hillary was trouncing Trump all the way to election day (and beyond).

Like I said before, republicans don't know how to pick a winner, but they sure know how to punish a loser, and Donald Duck is the biggest loser since Andrew Jackson. At least Jackson lived in an era when he could get away with all this crap, and he never threatened national security. Donald Duck never had the support of his own party leaders from the beginning, and once the evidence comes out, they will turn on him in a heartbeat, because that's loyalty when your job is selling your government to the highest bidder. They can bitch all they want, but even Fox News has turned against them.

Hillary was winning, right up until the justice department decided to investigate her, weeks before the election. It is already civil war, with the bureaucrats jumping in whenever they feel like swaying our elections. Not that it matters, with a gerrymandered electorate and Americans being so stupid as to continue to vote for whoever screams the loudest. However, if they don't kick the bum out of office this time, he may never leave, and there is too much money involved for it end well.

One billion dollars for a single election, one billion dollars spent on lobbying, a billion here, a billion there and, pretty soon, you're talking real money.

I wasn't talking about a commercial transaction as in prostitution, say after a man pays a porn star for sex. Payment after or before the sex is the same as far as the law is concerned. Criminal intent is a consideration when offer, promise, and value is exchanged in a situation where a man wants to harm a political candidate from the opposition party. I'm going to let Adam Schiff don his job, because he is a real lawyer. Also, I wish to add, early voting starts in 12 months.

Politicians are all prostitutes and pimps these days, because your vote no longer matters, no matter how often they tell you it does. At best, Americans now how veto power to kick the bums out of office, and replace them with more bums. That's why they elected Donald Duck, because at least he was a different bum from the usual.

The one where we say we can't have an election since the dems rigged. Republicans are already canceling primaries and gerrymandering. Want to take bets that this is not the excuse in 2020? He will claim he won and refuse to abdicate. He will have a Twitter tantrum and even in an actual election there will be right wing terrorism in his name.

Feel free to come back to this in 13 months.

    She did

This is why you need to cancel things. America is not what you want it to be. Electrical systems and fraud are what works for you.

Is it illegal for a president to trade US aide for information about a political opponent? I'm not asking if it's ethical, I'm asking if it's illegal.

I looked this up and here's what I found - this is from fec.gov's page on foreign nationals involvement in US election:

"Under Commission regulations, it is unlawful to knowingly provide “substantial assistance” to foreign nationals making contributions or donations in connection with any U.S. election. Further, no person may provide substantial assistance in the making of any expenditure, independent expenditure, or disbursement by a foreign national. "Substantial assistance" refers to active involvement in the solicitation, making, receipt or acceptance of a foreign national contribution or donation with the intent of facilitating the successful completion of the transaction."

So yeah. And to further clarify that, on the same page the FEC defines a foreign national's donation to a campaign as a monetary donation OR anything else of value. It's vague but I think a lawyer could easily argue that providing dirt on a political opponent constitutes something of value.

Excellent point, 'dice. It may be an abuse of power, but Constitution refers to "high crimes and misdemeanors" as being impeachable offenses. I am not seeing any crime here, and the word "misdemeanor" seems to have had a rather different meaning in the 18th century. That is why I see this as largely political theater on the part of Democrats.

That said, Trump should have had better sense than to get personally involved with soliciting Ukraine's help with investigating the Bidens. Understandable from a human perspective as "the swamp" resorted to abuse of power in trying to throw the election to Hillary, but still not something he was wise to involve the office of the presidency in.

If you think that Trump is not subject to term limits, than you are truly delusional. I know people- government employees at that- who believed Obama would try to stay in office when his term ended. As much as I distrusted Obama, I thought they too were delusional.

Married as I am to a (retired) career soldier, I very much resent your sideways attack on the military, who simply would not go along with your delusional depiction of reality. Get a grip, sir.

The crime is Donald Duck has publically solicited even China to interfere in our elections, which is treason. Inviting outsiders to
If Donald Duck can ask even China to help him swing an election, the entire system is gerrymandered, and he has even cut the mass media a deal on their rent, he is already in a position to declare himself the winner of the next election, because our elections have become totally meaningless. Knowing him, he would declare the whole government and electoral college corrupt, and impose martial law. If Libertarians do not put a stop to this, it will incite a civil war, and they will lose just as badly as they did the first civil war.

I not not believe there is any way that a court is going to charge POTUS under this law as a result of said president's unorthodox diplomacy with a foreign power. Trump did not ask for anything illegal- he asked for Ukraine's help in an inquiry into a US citizen. Now I am not comfortable with "weaponizing" diplomacy for use against political opponents, but I do think you are totally misrepresenting the intent and reach of the law.

As sensitive as you are to Trump's possible misuse of power, I don't see any comparable concern from you when it comes to Biden causing a prosecutor of a foreign nature to be fired. Funny thing, when Biden reported that, he forget to tell people that the prosecutor was investigating his son.

Abuse of power is a high crime.

Article II of Nixon's impeachment recommendation was for abuse of power.
Election tampering is a crime, as Meliai pointed out:
Obstruction of justice, by attempting to hide evidence is a crime.
