There are a few limitations to your post, particularly on Capitalism.

Capitalism is not fueled by a corporations greed alone, let us remember you are probably sitting there at a computer which was made in China.

But for the record, I am not against further revolution, to bring us back on topic, i'm just wary. I'm allowed to be :)

I understand that, but a goverment can still operate in a way in which it represents and cares for it's people and their needs, while still being a customer of overseas products.

Yes it is greedy of corporations to deny the citizens of a country jobs simply because they can get their products made cheaper overseas.

Imprisoning citizens over ridiculously harmless things so that they can enter the prison system where they more or less become corporate owned slaves is another.

Lying to citizens about the nature of their business is another thing. Lying about war crimes, drug laws and seizures, etc.

Putting the leaks aside there are many reasons here at home as to why people should stand up and demand more from their government, but they don't.

It's hard to revolt when you're under the spell of shiney garbage, a picture box, drugged food, etc.

To be fair, I 'get' what people are saying. The website may do some great things, but it's hardly a standard bet. There is considerably risk

If somebody told me this Julian fellow was to die in a freak donkey riding accident, I would not be surprised in the slightest.

    Then what?

Look what happen when he was incarcerated. The leaks continued.

Also, as skip said, other's should and likely will follow Assange's lead considering the publication of information. Wikileaks needn't be the only front releasing those kinds of documents and in the furture I doubt it will be.

people never buy in quite so much the second time.

My last question: as quite a number of documents have been released
what has changed so far? We have the power, after all.

I'm not being The Imaginary Dickhead by the way, simply educating myself here.

I know you're not being argumentative.

I'm not sure what you mean by "we have the power."

Do you mean we have the power to change? We do, but we don't because most don't care whether things change or not. Most are complacent.

We do have the power in that we could dictate the way things go. Most don't realize that however and they think that the rich elite have "the power", but they don't. Being that everyone under them is the foundation not only of society but of the financial system, we have the power to control money. We could do this by not buying shit, hoarding money in some means other than a bank account, or even by saying "to hell with money". If people refused to spend their money on most of the shit of modern society, except that which is necessary for survival and of course the odd shindig, people could dictate change in society. It would send corporations the message "we don't want your shit," and would stop the cycle of consumerism that we're now caught in.

What has changed regarding the leaks?- Not much unfortunately, with the exception of Tunisia.

Of course a lot more would start to change if the media didn't blackball anything to do with Assange and the leaks.

I thought news was supposed to be objective.....?

The media are irrelevant. People keep insisting that Wikileaks is giving the people to attempt change, so let's forget any other demographic for now.

We have these documents coming thick and fast, people are equally insisting this is fantastic 'cos we should be able to demand answers from the government.

I just want to know what answers we have presently. Because if nothing has happened by now, I doubt very much will.

As for the highlighted point, this is what I actually meant earlier about the computer. It's a case of putting your money where your mouth is (I know, too easy) and not buying into capitalism. Many of the people who demand a change within this system, will still be buying cheaper products, still be buying things they don't need

it's the ultimate hypocrisy. That's why I find a lot of these arguments stupid. Lest not forget the lives that we lead before we start pointing fingers at other people.

I don't disagree. However it isn't up to wikileaks to demand or make change, it's up to people to want it. And I just don't feel that that is going to happen.

    True and a good point.

    ultimately though

I, like anyone else, would love to see positive change. If Wikileaks does produce this change, then I will be infinitely happy.

Words, what do they mean to each of us? Although they provide us a simple means of communicating, do they result in accomplishing a singular acceptable view or opinion, or do they provide a means of dividing us at times?

Wikileaks - A source of raw information, left for each individual reader to interpret.

Radio, TV News Media, Political press conferences - Information given with the application a bias or spin to make it more palatable, achieving the desired reaction.

Positive change - Differs relative to each individuals views.

Infinitely happy - Achievement of the impossible, a true miracle.

Government - Protector? Mother? Father? Provider? ...?

Do any other Arab countries have big unions like Tunisia? I think it's the unions joining in with the students that causes protests to reach critical mass and bring down governments, historically.

Without union organization to bring out the working folk, who join with students, who are organized by social networks, you cannot hope to defeat a government which is organized to repress the people.

And the final downfall only happens when a part of the government rebels or doesn't do its fascist duty repressing protests. The police in Tunisia abdicated their responsibilities in the face of the protests, allowing them to grow bolder. In fact I heard the police themselves were encouraging the protesters to attack the President's family instead of their police station...

The article appears to relate that "reports" are spreading of the "attempted" self immolation, while the title seems to lead one to believe that more persons are attempting self immolation.

By claiming that the Arab "world?" is very afraid of these uprisings, I assume you are not implying that has anything to do with Islamic form of government.

The key word in bringing about revolution is simply "organization" which is sufficient to mobilize by stirring up anger. Once adequately mobilized, guerrilla tactics are most effective in bringing down a government. It requires dedication, not large numbers of forces to bring down any government.

The only other country that it might be possible in is Egypt, but Egyptians seem much less angry than they are disillusioned than people in Tunisia were, not to mention Tunisia had a much more educated populace.
