Initially I might shy away from a woman whose teeth were really awful, but not because I couldn't stand the sight of them. I'd be afraid the state of her teeth reflected some serious flaw in her character -- drug addiction, maybe, or plain carelessness.

For a while, I dated a girl who wore full dentures. Gum disease ran in her family, so rather than spend tens of thousands of dollars keeping the originals, she had them all pulled and replaced with falsies -- at the age of twenty-two. After we'd been together a while, she started letting me see her without them. Some days she wouldn't bother putting them in at all. I didn't mind a bit. In fact, I thought she looked oddly cute without them.
