    Yes, it's there. I don't disagree.

But, I think it is undeveloped dinosaur-think. And it will go...eventually. Good riddance.

Male / Female roles as in "the kitchen", "the little woman by my side", "my trophy wife" (prize? *ahem*)...

I think you missed the message here, really. The culture seems to have taken a turn for the worst when we go from "little old lady" to "ho". That's not progress.

I would NEVER call Bride of Libertine my "bitch". That is so disrespectful it makes me sick. Seeing someone call a woman their "bitch" is like seeing someone call your African-American friend a "******" or your gay friend a "fag". It's disgusting and hateful.

Apparently, the majority of women disagree with you.

You see it as you wish.

I have no beef with you, obviously.

My beef has already been cooked.

    Thanks, fabioula.

My wife is a very physically attractive woman, but it isn't just her good looks that I am into. She is a talented, intelligent and very creative person whose company I enjoy more than any other person on the planet.

Did anyone else evn notice this? Love is not a selfish thing at all. Love is completely selfless. If you love someone, you would die for them.
I think what you are thinking of is LUST, a COMPLETELY differant thing. Yeah, being lustful is FULL of selfish desires. But you can be lusting after someone who's guts you hate. Lust is completely sexual and superficial. Love goes WAY WAY deeper into their personality. If someone says they love someone, but don't like their personality, they are complete liars.

As far as what Libertine said, Awesome! I agree! It seems like, especially in like the rap/ hip-hop culture, women are degraded completely. Just watch the videos!

    Makes me sick too, man.

Pop culture shows us that we really haven't come far from back in the days when women were fighting for the right to vote. It also shows us that blacks haven't come far in society, seeing that awful video at the oscars (was it the oscars?) that depecited all the males as pimps and all the women as prostitutes (all non white in the video). So its women and minorities. Why do people endorse it?

I have lust for every cute girl I see. I either don't love anybody, or don't love myself enough to show my love to the people I should love.

I've decided to skip lust all together. To hell with it. I don't care if I don't develop skills or whatever. Atleast I don't waste time in "the game".

love is not selfless. codependence is, and is often mistaken for love by those in it. Not saying I agree with insaneboy there, but can't agree with the notion that love is selfless, been there, got burned, really really badly burned.

This, I totally agree with. I think he has totally missed the point, and possibly the boat as well. Being disrespectful of your partner, and especially saying it's a joke, is a form of emotional abuse. There is never any excuse for such behavior. For society to do that to *all* women... well... words cannot express how much that makes me sick.

It saturates the culture. Not just "hos" and "bitches", but the entire "little trophy" or "kitchen/bedroom" or "weaker sex" mentality. I cannot force you to see what is apparent.

The women here see it. Others see it and want to do something about. Perhaps the reason you don't see it is because you don't want to or your mind is so conditioned to subconsciously believe that this is a "woman's role". Or maybe you just don't care.

    I do.

i really don't see it to the extent that you do. Have you watched shows like King of Queens where the guy is the bumbling idiot? How many shows have guys as scheming idiots trying to get a girl? You really think MEN are portrayed that much better in society?

Everytime you see a pretty woman, do you automatically assume that she's a 'prize?'

and as insanejester said: this board is not exactly a fair view of America at large. That would be like me going over to a right wing board and assuming their views on John Kerry are representative of America.

Well, you continue to ignore it. I'll continue to speak out against it.

If you cannot see it, I cannot force you to. But, I've yet to find one woman here who cannot see it.

These abuses against women too widely tolerated.

you are painting a picture that every man calls a woman his 'ho or bitch'.

That is simply not true and to paint it like that is completely derogatory towards men.

Just because Eminem might call a girl a bitch doesn't mean American society portrays all women that way.

    Not true.

You are missing the whole point, and now I think you are doing it facetiously.

You know good and well I didn't say "every man". You are building a straw man.

WHY is a womyn percieved as "good looking" supposedly better than one who is just "average looking?" Is she a better lover? probably not, as some (not all, but some) really good looking people often feel they don't have to TRY hard to please their lovers, just being there is percieved as "enough" by some of them. Is she going to be NICER to you? My guess would be, she would be no nicer than any other girl.

Except for the fact that some of one's loser friends might be temporarily impressed, why is an outstandingly beautiful girl better than a normal looking one? I was a fine looking girl when I was young, built like a little brick shit house, not bragging, just the truth, and I had to fight off all the jerks who only wanted an arm "ornament." The boy I chose, and eventually married, was not considered one of the "hottest" dudes in school, he's nice looking, but average. People wanted to know WHY? Why him, when some really HOT dudes wanted to go out with me. Because I LOVED him, he was good to me, and after 28 years he STILL loves me as much,in fact.... , MORE than he did when we were 16 and 18.

Nice looking people are nice to LOOK at. But, in the long run how you and that person get along, how that person treats you and others, and how you LOVE each other is what matters. And a good looking womyn is no better than a plain one.

HEAR HEAR, My BROTHER!!!! I totally agree with Libertine. Love isn't a conquest and your lover is never your possesion. That type of thinking leads to irrational jealously and Domestic Violence. You know the score, Lib. (I KNEW you weren't the antichrist, LOL ;) (don't worry, it's a little in joke 'tween Lib and me.)

As for experiencing being called, or seeing others called "bitch" and "ho" ect. I do, a lot. I don't know any females or even males who don't see this. As for King of Queens and other TV shows. One of the reasons it't "funny" (to some people, I don't watch this show, as I think the dude's wife is pretty disrespectful of him, I'd never treat my husband like that.) is that it is the opposite of what people expect. A big dude, being dominated by his wife. I don't AGREE with it, but is IS TV, not real life. And, Kevin (is that his name) isn't EXPOITED! He isnt portrayed as a piece of meat, ect. But, I do agree, his wife on the show isn't very nice to him.

Again, there is nothing wrong with being attracted to good looking people (I have a thing about Johnny Depp myself) but, picking a partner is really different than just LOOKING.

i hardly think the 16-22 male demographic represents American society. Ultimately, i think that has less to do with degrading women in general as in thats how guys(that age) act by and large, they degrade each other and everything around them. Men jump all over each other putting each other down..maybe its a sick sense of equality? :p

That's my point. I'm not saying no one is calling women 'bitches or hos' or viewing them as trophies. I think people here are wrongly using the word Society. There is not ONE overarching society in this country, let alone one that condones calling women bitches and hos.

The vast majority of society is either doing it, or not caring if others do.

NOT all men use these words. Many men do not. But, only a few make an issue out of it, as strongly and eloquently as Libertine is.
