Yeah, it's amusing... to a certain extent. I've only discovered that the stereotype existed when i started going online to talk to foreigners (so in my late twenties). Everytime i said i was French, people would immediately mention hairy armpits and bad hygiene, which was not extremely kind, and just as absurd as saying "hey i've heard all French people go to the forest and cut 5 trees before breakfast". Yes we do that, of course, tell me all about it since u probably know France better than i do lol. I wonder how Americans would feel if everytime they said one word everyone immediately said "i've heard u're all overweight and dumb".
That's awful, I would never even think about saying that to someone. But yeah, it's useful to know that every nation has a stereotype - if an american stereotypes you just say you're impressed by their ability to speak english
(sorry for the off-topic conversation) I like the positive stereotypes. Like, Irish people are supposed to extremely kind and generous . Not only is it a nice stereotype, but i suspect that it's also based on true facts, judging from the warm-hearted welcome i got everytime i went to a pub in Dublin ! :2thumbsup:
