I never really got it... I mean, I never really understood why men and women feel so clueless about each other. You make good points. It's been shown that there are fundamental differences between male and female brains, but I agree ... men and women are more alike than we are different. I think there will be things that we will never understand about each other, but so what? We can live with it.
How much time and effort have you spent trying to learn more about women? I don't mean about sex positions or anatomy. If you don't read or ask questions, you aren't going to learn much. I used to read Playboy to get more information about the way that straight men think. When was the last time you picked up a Cosmo?
Personally I think their is much more to both men and women than what is depicted in Cosmo and Playboy; these magazines are terrible ways to find out about the opposite sex - but they are a good way of finding out about marketing to the opposite sex. Magazines like Playboy or Maxim are Men's Very Light Entertainment. The vast majority of Maxim is meant as humor, and I don't know any man who takes it as gospel. I'm hoping women don't really buy the crap printed in Cosmo either; I've read it, and the tips they give about pleasing your man are absolute rubbish. Their segments about male psychology are an even greater farce. The best way to find out about the opposite sex is to talk to them and listen.
I just picked two examples out of the air! OF COURSE you are not going to learn it all from one pop culture magazine! You need to read lots of stuff and talk to lots of people, but you definitely need to read some things that are specifically targeted at women, if you want to know more about us than you know now. Of course Playboy is all superficial marketing and spin - but they market to men's fantasies - stuff that a lot of guys won't quickly admit to women that they like. Reading it added something to my background knowledge. Do some girls actually believe the most extreme shit that they print in Cosmo? You will run into more than a few girls who repeat the bullshit line for line. I'm not endorsing any particular magazine for being an authoritative bastion of journalistic excellence here. I'm not even endorsing magazines over web sites or books or TV shows, per se. I'm just saying make an effort. The guy who posted that he doesn't understand everything he sees in the Women's Issues forum - at least he is trying to learn.
You owe my polar bear an apology. She's more sane than most humans, and I don't serve her anything with alcohol in it. She's underage.
Men will never understand women. Women will never understand men. Everyone is too different. There is no one size fits all. Try and do the best you can to understand one person. If you can pull that off, your doing ok.
Literally, every cell in a woman's body is different from a man's. It has a pair of X chromosomes in it instead of an X and a Y. Then you have all the hormonal differences. Understand one other person? Sometimes I have trouble understanding myself! I don't even know where some of my moods come from. Don't you hate it when so-called relationship experts make blanket statements about all men or all women? What a useless oversimplification! The guy I'm living with has very few of the faults that the magazines say that all men have.
The magazines cater to already unhappy people and feed them more and more lies. The feminist doctrine is based on lies. The anti-feminist doctrine is based on lies. Both of them argue over who's lies are bigger. It's sad that with so many lines in the sand, (borders, racial, religion, etc...) that we now are inundated with a line between the genders. Who benefits from any of these lines? Why are we, as a society, so easily manipulated by these posturing peacocks. Why do so many people read some article or listen to some speech, or watch something on TV and automatically assume that it is 100% true and accurate?
i think that's the most civilised comment i've ever read by you. :cheers2: i agree, people are complicated, they change, they alter attitudes and behavior, etc. trying to figure out a whole gender as a gender is never gonna work.
A lot of inner healing has gone on over the last year. I'm trying. Still out of work but I'm hanging in there.
Sometimes I am tempted to just boycot mainstream pop culture media altogether. But that wouldn't work. That would just make me out of touch with all the millions of people who are not out of the loop. So I take a deep breath and go back to reading and watching, filtering everything through a healthy layer of skepticism. :banghead:
don't forget the giggles and remind your polar bear she's supposed to be a bit on the fatty side. please, all those women are so on drugs, anyway. i remember i could eat like a complete pig and do coke once a week and STILL lose weight without exercising. pfft. hollywood is a major drug culture. quit buying into their lies.
