Tomorrow I leave for my 35th year fishing in Alaska, I hate leaving but there are times when it's a wonderful job. It can be miserable, cold, wet and very tiring and I miss my life at home. But what am I going to do to pay the bills nobodies going to pay me to post on here.
    It's just life.

Oh man, that is the worst. I got hired once at a factory through a staffing center. They loved my work and basically trained me for every position over the course of a few months. They announced their intent to hire me and then sat on it. For 8 months. They could have made me permanent a month after they hired me, but come to find out they were floundering financially and were trying to cut corners any way they could, including not hiring me until it was so late in the year that they didn't have to give me any time off or refresh my sick time for a whole year from my hire date. I finally said fuck off and got a job with a lab company so I could actually use my education and not get totally screwed. I will never forgive them for that. Just kept stringing me along, making promises and then stabbing me in the back. I realize the system doesn't care about you but there is such a thing as basic human decency and that was just fucked up.

For the most part, I really enjoy my job. I like the majority of the people I work with, the customers are as a whole better than the customers I dealt with at my old job, and the money is good. But the hours have SUCKED since I took the assistant manager position (such is life...lol) and being locally owned, it's not likely I'll see any benefits short of a bonus here and there. I work 2-3 12 hour shifts a week (the other couple of shifts are anywhere from 5-8 hours). It's not hard work but it can be a little stressful since I work in a "factory" town and the majority of the local public gets dinner all at the same time and the customers aren't very understanding that the world doesn't revolve around them and they aren't the only people who ordered food. Haha. I wish I hadn't gone back into the food industry, but so far it's been a good gig for me. The pros still outweigh the cons, no matter how I try looking at it.

I had a buddy who did a cheese run every day, he also had a sewage truck. He asked me if I wanted to go on a cheese run with him. "Sure" he picked me up in his poop truck and away we went, for the day,,, out to many rural areas to clean their shit holes,,, shit!
He still laughs about it but ya know something, while he was pumping all I had to do was find a place where I would be in the wind that was blowing the smell away. Thank god it was a windy day. Haha
Anyway, aside from shitty jobs I think even if I won a lottery I would still have to work. I don't think I could just have nothing to do since I don't like house work and would hire in to get that done. Even now I save money so someone else will come in and do spring cleaning here twice a year because I hate it. When I am done working for real as in retired I am gonna down size to something a third of the size of this house and get a volunteer job at the hospital or the cancer clinic probably. They seem to enjoy their work helping people find their appointment places and comforting them.

If you can love your work and your home/city you have it made.

Can't say I always loved where I lived when work took me to places I didn't care for but the jobs were great. Working up in the mountains was cool but it meant living in very small communities and shopping once a month for groceries and other stuff and having to know less then 300 people so it got kind of crazy but at least those jobs were short like about 1 to 3 years. Won't do that again because I finally landed the perfect job in the perfect place and no one will cause me reason to move again, done tired of moving and losing friends I made in different places.
I am climatized here now, love the very hot summers and beaches and mild winters and I knew the day I landed here this was my forever home.

I love my job and love what I work with. Have done 60, 72 hour work weeks, I prefer 38 - 44. But I still enjoyed myself. I believe in what I'm doing, and I have a great time doing it. I look forward to waking up and going in every day.

Is it just me, or does working feel like throwing away days of your lifetime?

Absolutely. If there was a way I could live on a part-time wage, you can bet I would be doing it. Why the fuck do we not get summer vacation like we did in school? Even just a week off here and there would do wonders for morale. A week off for holidays, maybe? When things are slow anyway? So people with friends and family across the country don't have to only see them once a year. But no, everyone has to be served rightbygodNOW! And I guess people that are in necessary jobs like waste management would be screwed because they are needed... I dunno, it just feels like there should be a better way so that life could actually be enjoyed rather than just worked away.

It's been so nice out lately, I have just wanted to be anywhere but stuck in a call center listening to other peoples' problems all day. I mean, I do tech support for veterinary analyzers, so I realize the value of my position, helping vets get their analyzers working again so they can diagnose puppies and kittens and all that. But damn. Need vaycay. Nao.
I have a week off coming up to do my duty as a good daughter and go see my mom for Easter coming up, but that's hardly going to be relaxing...

In my last job I used to get 6 weeks off a year but because I rarely travelled I would book off a bunch of thursdays and Fridays so I got lots of long weekends instead of taking the time off in blocks. It was awesome because it happened so many times and sometimes I made sure they blended into stat holidays too so it was even longer.
One job I had when I was 18 working in the mountains, we had 6 shifts to work in 5 days and so we got 5 off every rotation, add holidays on to that and sometimes it felt like we weren't really working. The 6 shifts were tough to get used to tho but was worth it once used to it.
Now my holidays are provided by me so when ever I want them but I rarely take any.
