Interestingly, if the US had listened to Jimmy Carter, thirty years ago, about alternative energy sources and conservation, a lot of the problems we have today would be nonexistent.
I know George Dub-ya wasn't the worst, but he was definitely the stupidest on that list, so I chose him
Almost all of them have been a detriment to society but if I have to choose one, I say Abraham Lincoln was the worst.
Sheeez, it has been 30 years -- actually more, I think. And, I believe you're right. I vaguely remember the speech Mr. Carter gave -- it was, what, 2 or 3 years after the embargo and was was deemed gloom and doom by many -- apparently too many. If I remember correctly, a large portion of the proposed policy (that having mostly to do with reseach and developement) was never enacted due to lack of congressional support. Thermostats were set to higher temps in summer, lower in winter, the 55 mph nationwide speed limit was enacted. The more substantial conservation measures weren't widely accepted. It seems that while most of the R & D measures were not taken up and followed, many the environmental measures were enacted -- in some cases severly impacting common practices of the day, causing a further gradual decrease in domestic production. Bank interest rates hovered around 20% or just slightly less -- housing construction was stifled as was business growth. Mr. Carter seemed overwhelmed or pre-occupied with an Israeli-Egytian peace (which was successfully reached) and the Iranian hostage crisis which resulted in another gas crisis. His general demeanor and facial expression was seldom one exuding the confidence that's especially important for any world leader. Even thought I disagreed very strongly with most of his political agenda, Carter, perhaps somewhat naive, may have actually been too good from a moral standpoint to be a good president. Though usually praised for his humanitarian efforts since leaving office, Mr. Carter seems almost bitter toward the U.S. -- maybe due to his own weakness as President.
Can you believe this idiot? "YOUR UN-NEEDED INCOME BELONGS TO THE GOVERNMENT" www.commentarymagazine.com/2011/07/12/obama-unneeded-income-belongs-to-the-government
Without a doubt, George W. Bush. In my opinion, he should be tried and convicted for sending troops into Iraq under false pretenses. Resulting in the deaths and perminent maiming of thousands of innocent american troops. All so he would finish the job his dad started and correct history for him.
After all he did alert us to his propensity to Marxism along with his dislike of the U.S. Constitution. All U.S. currency belongs to the government, and has no value of its own, other than what government allows. It is our labor and our property where our real wealth resides. Our two party political system has for most all of the past century been used as a technique very similar to the tactics of good cop/bad cop in order to manipulate the voters toward accepting a more Socialist and controlling form of government. Currently both parties find themselves looking at a common enemy, the possible emergence of a viable third party, which could possibly consume the Republican party or simply replace it as a newly named party.
I would have to disagree with your saying that "All U.S. currency belongs to the government", when in actually all U.S. currency belongs to the Federal Reserve, which is a World Bank and no part of the US Government.
Ronald Reagan BY FAR without him none of our current problem would exist in the form they do, IN A WORLDWIDE SCALE no doubt
Maybe Obama with actually 4 open wars and some secret wars going on, massive police state and the criminal financial system, high unemployment...
Actually a thread on currency might be quite interesting. If anyone really thinks hoarding currency is a means of accumulating wealth, they should only do so with pennies and nickels avoiding paper entirely. It would be an entirely different world if our money was actually worth the amount indicated by the number printed on it. All currencies used for trade today are little more than IOU's backed only by the labor of those who procure the raw materials which exist, producing the products we want and/or the services we make use of. Money is simply a claim on labor, which is the means by which life is sustained.
