So Nixon ended the war even though he didn’t want to as opposed to Johnson who wanted to end the war, but didn’t do it anyway.

    Here are some baaddd presidents:

    Jimmy Carter
    Andrew Johnson
    James Buchanan
Warren Harding (might be biggest dipshit on the list)
Zachary Taylor (died early in office)

I voted "other" because the worst was probably Warren Harding.

First off, I believe the vietnam war was a just cause. The south vietnamese wanted to be free of communist rule. I know many will argue that most didn't care who ruled them, communist or the western world. I would agree, there were many vietnamese who felt that way. But, there were also many visionaries who longed for freedom and a better way of life.

I believe Johnson wanted to end the war but just couldn't find a 'graceful' way out of it. He wanted to save face for the military who fought so hard there and he didn't want the 57,000 and some veterans who died there to have died in vain.

Nixon wanted to win, period. He couldn't accept defeat at all, no matter the cost in human lives and money. He was just pressured too much by the American people to stop the killing. He was not a war strategist but yet he wouldn't allow a bomb to be dropped unless he knew about it first.

Oh please, outside parties that enter wars they weren't initially part of, enter because they have something to gain from it.

Ever since the Korean War and the U.S. saw that every country they would " aid " would be a new territory setup for them, I mean Japan and South Korea don't match up all that well to the rest of Asia...Singapore is a neautrality...

The Vietnam War was simple, if the U.S. had allowed the communists to win, they believed countries such as Thailand would go commie red and it would cause danger to South Korea and Japan.

I'd have to say "monkeyboy" (GWBush) for all the reasons earthmother cited and one more, it’s safe to say the US has survived all the other Presidents, but I’m afraid that the US will not survive the policies of monkeyboy.

The freedoms that the Patriot Act has removed will never be returned but worst of all is that he has sold the US to China to finance his war on terror. The US dollar has long been the world standard but that has quickly changed under monkeyboy.

Why? Because the world knows if China were to dump their US dollar holdings on to the market, the US would fold like a house of cards! With the possible exception of when the US first started, under no other President has another country had that kind of power over the US.

Monkeyboy has crippled the US and is the terrorist we should be fighting!

After spending half a trillion dollars on a useless war monkeyboy can't figure out why the US is in a recession!

theres no way you can put the most recent presidents on that list.... it takes many decades of history to know how bad or how good a president is.... A long enough period of time to gauge political fallout and new information from the president's administration.

If you thing GWBush is the worst president we've ever had, then you need a history lesson. Trust me, there have been presidents in the past that have done FAR worse.

Give it 20 years, and then maybe we will know how bad he was...

I'm sorry but I don't think the US has that long to mull it over.
You need to take a good long hard look at monkeyboy and the condition of the US.

Sorry but saying Jimmy Carter was the worst president? that makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.

GW, without a doubt. Most incompetent, extremely corrupt, extremely dishonest, stole an election, increased power of executive branch, ignored constitution, has a most disgusting group of friends and you know the rest...I don't need history to tell me how horribly inept he is, its fucking obvious.

Jack, I think you'd usually be right, and usually people fail to have any kind of perspective when they talk about the current president...but you kinda have to make an exception for GW.

I heard that Carter recently apologized for having been quoted as saying that Bush was the worst president in history, he meant to say that Bush was worse than Nixon...

well Bush is certainly the worst president in my lifetime, and I can't imagine how anyone more incompetent could find their way into office. Plus he stole an election. That makes him the worst in my book.

I agree, MotherLoveBone, Monkeyboy is the worst in my lifetime and I can remember Eisenhower.

Monkeyboy has the power to declare martial law for 3 months without congressional approval.
He has removed all the top ranking military officers that don’t completely agree with him.
Just that’s just scary, somebody tell me, what’s to prevent him from declaring martial law just before the elections and making himself President for Life?

Would it be his respect for the Constitution? No, he already said that’s just a piece of paper.
Would it be his love for the American people? Just ask the people of New Orleans.
Would it be the Bill of rights? Well under his administration the people of America people have lost more freedoms than under any other President.
Would it be his respect for the Supreme Court? He tried to make one of his cronies, whose only experience at being a judge was judging a horse show, a Justice of the Supreme Court.
Would it be his love for the United States and what it stands for? He recently signed a document with Canada and Mexico, basically for the three countries to become one with just one currency called the Amero (think Euro for North America).
I could go on about the economy and National IDs etc. but you get the idea.

All I ask is someone wake me from this nightmare and
tell me Clinton is still the President and we’re just worried about his indiscretions with women,
tell me that New Orleans is still there,
tell me torture is not a national value,
tell me that we’re not on the brink of a depression that will make the 30s look like a cake walk,
tell me I can’t be thrown in jail and kept there incommunicado without trial or lawyer for an indeterminable amount of time just because someone said I was a national threat,
tell me…oh you get the picture.

A sense of history? Can't you just feel history in the making?

I read that 61% of historians believe bush to be the worst president in history. Here's a quote describing bush that I think sums it up brilliantly:
