I wouldn't go along with these kind of developments simply for the reason that I don't think that humanity is supposed to merge with technology, if they would do that they would prove to me they don't get one single bit of what life is about. but yeah they are doing that already so I guess that when the moment is there everyone who can afford it will join the new crowd.

I think the people who like this idea have to much fantasy and don't understand how great the implications are.

but why would you want to get your head filled with all knowledge in the world, don't you have any idea how contradictory the worldwide body of knowledge actually is, you'd only get confused i guess.
if you could look the way you'd like to look like, what would you look like? like all the others and since beauty is very subjective there still will be people that fit better to the social norms of beauty than others and the problem would still exist, the one of chasing the impossible fashion standards.
immortality and all that, its boring and i believe in reincarnation and spiritual growth. spiritual growth goes over technological development to me. technological development can be abused and misunderstood so easily, its a false kind of liberation.

the only thing that could happen if there were possibilities for a group of people to become cyborg is that they would turn into a bunch of supernazi's, certainly if they would think like people in western societies do nowadays, GREED. no thanks

I guess I sounded a bit harsh and a bit like a smart ass, anyway going post human in the end just goes against my gutfeelings I guess :p especially because of my last argument in my former post in this thread

We are the Borg! You will be assimilated! Resistance is futile!

As a Trekker and consumer of other Sci-Fi concepts, I can see the potential of this and its darkside. There are so many variations on this theme, but part of it may become a reality. I used to keep a file on all the Star Trek technology that is coming to pass. They've even started playing with the transporter tech on a primitive molecular stage, so lots of this stuff may be a reality in the not too distant future.

Such as implants (like the universal translater). They've already started using implants medically for cerebral palsy, seizures and blindness (Geordi's visor). I anticipate maybe in my lifetime implanted chronometers/calculators where you no longer need a watch and can square root things in your head. They are interfacing silicon with the brain as I post this in the Matrix (oops it's still called the WWW).

I have this belief that science fiction creates the future - That Jules Vern actually created the first atomic powered submarine called the Nautilus in the 19th Century, just by invisioning it. Our collective imaginations then made it so.

So, the technological advancement of humans has already made it to the collective imagination (Terminator, Matrix futures) so this proposition may not be that far fetched.

do think its only science fiction creates the future? couldn't it be that all thinking in some way affects the future and for technology its more obvious since its more recognizable?

Humans are already a godlike species.

The majority though, have failed to reach that natural potential.

Look at the gurus, the mystics, the sages, and countless other labels and examples of beautiful humans that have graced this planet over the eons.

We are perfect, we just need to unlock that perfection.

If we had this technology, without mastery of the self, without that natrual beauty unlocked, in a natural way, humans would still be a majority race of douchebags who are pitifully miserable, just with a few extra microchips in their physical shell and some other hi tech toys.

I wouldnt hold my breath for this shit to make me a better person, because that only comes natural.

Plus, i dont like the idea of having computers in my body, imagine getting a nasty trojan in your system.
