Excellent advice scorpion I have never read anything more refreshing on the whole of hipforums you are a genius.

I was going to suggest that the blocked writer should sit on a bus pretending to have a conversation on their mobile phone about how they just got out of prison after 8 years for Assault and Battery, then during the conversation drop it in that you thought you were over the old public transport syndrome but you can feel youre going to mentally explode any second, believe me that bus will empty in seconds and you will have a quiet unsmelly and pleasant journey into town during which you can think about writing and you will have a laugh about how the audacious will inherit the earth from the pipsqueeks

Another way of getting over Writers block will be to find out where Stephen King lives and then hold his entire family (including the dog) hostage until he writes a book in your name.

LOL ! yes good advice and if it fails you will have 20 years or so contemplation in a quiet room where you can get over writers block.

go to a zoo with a shit in a plastic bag then attract the attention of a chimp and just as he turns round to look at you, throw the shit into his face. this will anger him and he will start throwing shit at everyone and will break out of his cage and terrorise the entire city

that will give you enough to write about

I live near the zoo. I think I'll try it even though I haven't got writers block.

Here's another way. First, become a writer. Then buy a a block of paper. Now throw it away. Presto! You've got rid of writer's block!

Eat an ice-cream. That helps to get rid of writer's block.

heres a good one - dip the sole of a Nike trainer in some paint and then step on your dads trousers so when he puts them on it looks like you booted him up the arse !

although booting your dad up the arse unexpectedly is much funnier

I've always been keen on hotels... anonymity is a writer's best friend.

A good writer is a natural watcher, I think. He or she has to be able to pick up on things other people miss... and articulate them properly, without getting too involved.

Also, a writer should definitely never be afraid of being alone... if you need to be around people all the time, you're not going to be a good writer.

You need to separate yourself from the shit before you can do it right, I think.

Another method is go to the park overnight, and have someone bury you up to your head. The spend the day observing people and animals, until the police arrive and hae you sectioned.

Another great way of getting rid of writer's block is to stand behind big gravestones, and jump out at peope as they walk past. Observe their facial reaction to increase your descriptive powers. I am particularly fond of this exercise, but you have to be fast on your feet.

I have that problem for bout 5 years now. I try to write every now and then but still get stuck. Sometimes its best to collaborate with someone. Try it.

Well, if you really have the ideas and just can't get them out maybe there's something you need to get out of your mind first. Try free writing, not for a piece, just because. Don't worry about the ideas, if they're in your head they'll come out eventually, just do you best to flow and sooner or later you'll get to the point in the queue where the ideas are.

I have gone through this thread and deleted some of the responses, they where very creative, but I don't think they really served the purpose of this, so from now on post if you intend to help and give support with the issue of writers block

I write about things that interest me, as opposed to things that don't.

I write for my own pleasure. If I had to do it for a living, that would take the pleasure out of it.

Even the great writers go through dry spells.

Keep your sails up. Sooner or later, they'll catch the wind again and away you'll go.

I find going for a walk in the night helps. It also helps if you're drunk and/or high. Just record yourself talking to yourself...You look like a fool, but honestly it helps!

I've also been known to write in my sleep. Or even in the shower with a headful of shampoo.

It sometimes helps to keep a little pad and pen with you when you're out and about doing things. The Muse often strikes at odd times.
