Lol to me hip hop is when people spit raw real shit that flows smoothly over a good beat. 90's was where it was at, but i still dig Texas Rap preferably the DJ Screw Era shits gone wack now and most rap is trash. People trash on Eminem but that dude is lyrical no matter skin color. Hip Hop is a culture not a genre as long as its got soul and meaning behind it then i consider is good hip hop. Lil Wayne Fat Joe Plies DJ Khaled and all those wack ass dudes screwed up rap with there vocoder bullshit. Kanye is wack too he killed his career when he became T-Pain Jr. Tupac - Fuck the World - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4Qno4csf9w Eminem - I Still Dont Give a Fuck - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF93eRO-IuY Biggie Smalls - Party and Bullshit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHaTSxMuS6U Method Man - Bring the Pain - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKAG2Q7Bik4 Outkast - Spottieottiedopalicious - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXmqauitBkM Geto Boys - Six Feet Deep - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAS9DXD4hIk Scarface - No Tears - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAJ9ArSlUG0&feature=related Cypress Hill - Tequila Sunrise(Spanish) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Aw5CRoNyhg Cypress Hill - Illusions - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVhYQ1MbCR4&feature=related South Park Mexican - I Must Be High - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOPyNJig74w The Pharcyde - Passin Me By - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vx8sPzacvG0 Dr. Dre - Let Me Ride - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0Sp500ZVI0 Snoop Doggy Dogg - Whats My Name - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVKue7c7Sro&feature=related Eazy E - Luv 4 Dem Gangstaz - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j6WKDiuVtw Ice Cube - Check Yo Self - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJR62vsAg-0 Nas - The Cross - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvyeM7bs1mE&feature=related Bone Thugs - Mr Bill Collector - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOhDfZRllRM UGK - Let Me See It - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8uL2NFIoLo UGK - One Day your Here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCWH2MmlHQE&feature=related Devin the Dude - What a Job - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T1jdreS6ko Celly Cell - Its Going Down Tonight - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cg5qxy6_MA0 Immortal Technique - Peruvian Cocaine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJfumftYyxY Lil Flip - Starched and Cleaned - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5osKVQXCkfU

Man, not sure if this is referring to the previous posts or not ... … but just to clear up, in case, that I don't think anyone is disputing that Hip Hop is a culture. The discussion was relating to what tunes are Hip Hop or not ... NP said lyrics, vocals, etc ... I said the music style, etc ... anyway, blab, blab, blab For Sure, there was quite a bit cool stuff … but there is always cool stuff to be fair, one just has to look for it … there is not much in recent years, but it is out there I think part of the problem now days is ‘mass’ corporate and company monopolies that control all access by musicians into the music industry … sure it was always there, but it’s really heavy now. All the big names that you mentioned had to also start off somewhere and their grooves were seriously raw when they came out back then … now the ‘suits’ want everything polished and buffed before it’s noticed
Well put, I agree. Some artists of the top of my head: Atmosphere, Deltron 3000, Aesop Rock, Dilated Peoples, Thirstin Howl the 3rd, 7L, Esoteric, Camp Lo, Jedi Mind Tricks, Vinnie Paz, Ill Bill, Wu-Tang Clan, Army of the Pharaohs.
I haven't been really following hip-hop since the late 90's but RZA has to be one of the greatest musicians ever to be involved in hip-hop. Around the late 90's his beats weren't that good but these albums have to make him one of the best producers EVER: Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) Tical Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version Liquid Swords (some of) Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… I think that the dude was just overworked as a producer as deep as Wu-Tang is. But on the lyrical tip too, RZA at his best, nobody can kcuf wit him in my book besides Andre 3000 and Common at his best.:cheers2:
... And everyone will have there own view, so this is just mine Sister ... you know how producers, A&R’s and label promoters always try to add a flavour, or two, or three, etc. to Pop acts to make them a bit more interesting or to give them some angle … well that’s Missy Elliot, a Pop Star who's music, at times, borrows elements of Hip Hop, RnB … even Dancehall … so basically the end product is ‘Pop with Street Attitude’, whatever that is .. Well anyway … not to try to categorise everything, all I mean is that Missy Elliot’s end product is usually Pop
