but do you agree or dis agreee that using it more like the British would lessen or lighten the meaning so that calling your wife a **** wouldnt be bad...I have had women and wives that had no problem calling me a cock sucker or a dick or worse but ALL of them equally hated the word ****....

My partner is Scottish but was raised in Britain until he was 25 then he came here. If it came out of his mouth, I would still consider it something I do not wish to hear. I love the British sense of humour he displays, fortunately it is a word he does not use. At least in my presence.

What is really amazing is that there are many British who happen not to have sewer mouths.

It is a term that to me is derogatory. There is no cute meaning for this word.

I personally really detest the use of this word.

 

I would NEVER call my boyfriend anything like 'dick' or 'cocksucker'! And he would never call me anything like '****'. I guess we just respect each other.

 

The only time I ever use the words "****", "******", or "faggot" are when I feel that they would have some comedic value. I usually feel bad after using them, but at the same time I know that they're just words, and I feel that I should be able to use them if it would make something funny.

With each passing year it seems each of those words become less and less tolerated, which has good and bad sides. On the one hand it is good, because those words are usually used to inflict hurt. On the other hand it isn't so good, as people should be able to have the freedom to say whatever they want to say, and after all, they're just words.

I think that words can be used in variety of ways to get a certain point across or a certain reaction out of people. If we limit what words are meant to be used, we limit what emotions we can evoke out of people with their reactions to words. Though at the same time, by decreasing the use of these words we demonstrate that we're becoming an increasingly tolerant (while at the same time intolerant) society.
