The economy is practically global now as it is. If the American economy falls, then a lot of other economies will suffer, especially the ones of the third world countries dependent on America.

I don't think that the economy will completely collapse. The worst would be another Depression, which wouldn't be no fun, but it at least it won't be complete chaos and anarchy. (Which could be fun, but I think that we'll miss some of the comforts of society, such as safety and food)
