Uh yah great. I dont do labour. I am however looking for a job with the town, but its not easy. There are more options with minimum wage. *rolls eyes*
Find a passion or dream! Life was not meant to be a struggle. Once you have a dream cut down your expenses and save for it. Get yourself a copy of the book "The Riches Man In Babylon" by George S Clason. You can by it new or used for under 10 bucks. Read this book and apply the principles. This book has been around for years and the principles are tested by time. Save and then finance your dream. Just becase you are having a hard time now, does not mean it has to be that way. You can do it!
Yeah. One aspect that I love in modern society is the availability of such a wide array of jobs. You can be practically whatever you want to be. 100 or more years ago, you would have had to work in whatever your family did. Practically no options.
I get a serious rash when I hear people are making Excel sheets for their financial situation. If you have to do that it means you are definately on a wrong road. The great thing about our time and age and society is that we can be whatever we want to be and do whatever we want to do. All it takes is mental awareness. Do not wait for the change, be the change.
Bird is absolutely right. Get a plan, and work toward it. You may not like working minimum wage jobs, no one does, but if you focus your energy on it now, you will be able to move forward and not have to do the same thing all your life. What kinds of things do you enjoy doing, what are your passions? Answer that, and figure out a way you can get paid to do those things. There are plenty of options out there. It's not an overnight thing, but the sooner you get started on it, the sooner, you can start enjoying what you do.
There is some good insight in this thread. Thank you all for the debate. Hopefully the OP has drawn inspiration from it.
I plan to work long enough to break my financial ties and use my talents to live a simple life where the air is a bit fresher and the sky a bit brighter ... So right now its 2 jobs and little else... well, it will be for the next (insert period of time). Had I have known what I know now a few years ago, I'd be already where I wanted to be... but no time to mull about in such issues, I'd like to be where I want to be in some period of time where I can look back and say "this is when I decided to make things happen and I'm glad I did it!". "the sooner you get started on it, the sooner, you can start enjoying what you do." Exactly
Maybe you could ask your boss to cut you to part-time? I definitely understand the feeling of spending your life at work and it is a bummer, but I was screwed for a good while because my boss was horrible and couldn't keep a good crew, so I'd be working 40+ a week, with days off scattered all over the place inconsistently. When she quit and found a job she was better suited for, I asked the new manager if I could go back to part time (32-38 hours a week) and I have a guaranteed two days off. I'm the one in the household with a steady job, but we're still able to pay the bills and have a little extra, even if my boyfriend doesn't get a paycheck in that month. And I still have a ton of fun outside of work, I don't feel like I'm wasting my life at all.
The only trouble with being part time is the employer is not required to guarantee you anything. You might get 35 hours one week, and 5 the next. If you are full time, you at least know you are getting 40, if not more. But, it's all in what you want to do.
there you go, i meant that there are many alternative lifestyles that are possible where you don't need to work, if people want endless posessions then they can carry on working their ass' off everyday and have no time to enjoy them, but why do we need posessions? all we need is food to see us through the day and shelter, thats it, simple i could live off £30 a week easy, and still do everything i love, the average wage here is about £329! and thanks for saying you like my sig =)
Your posts have all been helpful, but let me give you a little more insight into the situation. We HAVE been very tight with money... every cent is needed to survive. If one of us misses even 5 hours we struggle to get groceries for that week.
Even when I was full-time, I still didn't get 40 hours every week. My job isn't exactly good at guaranteeing shit.
I hate to bring logical thought into this, but this doesn't make any sense to me at all. Without money, you can't AFFORD food. I mean sure, I guess you CAN go to homeless shelters now and then, but I have never heard anyone living this kind of life shout out the joys of living on the streets. I can't believe anyone here is even suggesting TRYING to be homeless, this to me is something you work your whole life to avoid. It's not a luxury. There are ways to work and be happy, the trouble with the world these days is that too many people don't WANT to work, they expect everything to be handed to them. Frankly though, I would rather work and be unhappy than living on the streets wondering where my next meal is going to come from. You can't tell me that is actually better than the first alternative. I'm not trying to be mean, and this isn't even really directed at you specifically, I just am having a hard time understanding how someone can achieve happiness without any level of stability. In my heart, happiness is knowing that I don't have to go to bed hungry, or wondering if there wil be a roof over my head. Alot of people go on about how wonderful it would be to live without any responsibilities and rules to live by, but those people have never actually gone through with it. If they had, they would tell you the true nature of the situation, that it isn't as wonderful as it seems. Before I get flamed, I want to add one last thing: There are SOME people who have lived this kind of life successfully, who will disagree with me. Especially a couple on this very forum that have traveled the world without baggage. But they did have one thing. Friends and supporters that helped them along the way, offered them food and shelter. So in essence, they were never truly homeless, just in transition. I don't normally post such a politically driven response. Let the flames begin.
You’d be surprised just how many people (if asked) would answer in the affirmative that yes, they could just wander around and survive. I suppose kinda like Kwai Chang Caine of Kung Fu hotwater
agreed. you send half the people who say how cool and freeing it is to be homeless..out in the world with nothing. they will not come back saying how cool it is anymore. the idea of having no possesions and no plan and nothing holding you back seems nice for about....2 days. then i need to shower and shave and eat and apply very good smelling lotion on so i am soft and nice and i dont repulse myself or my boyfriend. yeah. i don't know. i don't see it as working then you die. you work to afford things that make you happy.or support your family if you have one. and if you love your job, then maybe you don't even have to call it "work".
^Thank you, I couldn't agree more. I have gone stir crazy just being out of work for two weeks. Not because I love work so much as I love knowing that I am selfsufficient. Right now I am freaking out because I just started my own business and for the first time in my adult life am not drawing a regular paycheck. It is stressful as hell, because I have to go to bed at night wondering if I will have money to pay the rent next month, week, etc. I like stability. In many ways, I like responsibility, because it allows me the freedom of that stability, and security. I would take that over the streets any day.
Did i mention being homeless? I mean there are other ways to live your life than working 5/6 days a week, i see what you're saying, about food, personal needs like for cleaning etc and yeah i admit we should earn what we get, not have it given. I just mean that we don't have to go to extremes, working more days a week than we're not, i personally have the belief that we should live with this philosophy 'all play, no work' if possible. thats just my opinion. i think life should be lived in your own way. How about perusian tribes, do they work? are they homeless? are they dying of starvation? no. They go out there and get what they want, grow their own food, build their houses with their own bare hands. Maybe this seems a little extreme to some people who live in the modern world, what with consumerism consuming everyone and whatnot, but hey its a possibility. I guess it depends on what you think is an acceptable standard of living for yourself, i was just trying to get a point across that you don't have to be on some companies payroll to survive. It is definitely possible to live without having a job. thats a fact.
