My diet was never horrible, but I'm more mindful now that I'm in school for natural medicine and my first program is nutrition. I've upped my intake of seafood and fresh fruits/vegetables and I've cut out processed foods ALMOST completely (I still indulge in Ramen on occasion - the kind of horrible processed foods). I'm feeling much better now that I'm eating healthier. I'm paying attention to my ingredient labels and eating healthier rices, pastas, and typical carbs. If anyone would like to be one of my nutrition guinea pigs, let me know I'll be starting my case studies sooon!
My diet goes from extremely healthy to extremely bad. Well, not that bad, but extremely bad for what I consider a healthy diet. I'm like that with everything. The up and down life. I try to pay attention to what I eat more quality wise than quantity wise. I'm a huge label reader when I'm buying packaged food. I bought myself a Vitamix and that has helped me eat ... or drink, a lot better. It makes it easy to consume 12 different fruits and vegetables a day. I need to go grocery shopping and get more fresh produce. When I eat like that, my mind feels clear and I feel energized. I got one of those electric grills too and that makes cooking healthy food very easy. I've never been a fan of fried food. I'm not anti fast food, but it's not my preference. I've kept track of what I eat on the app/website myfitnesspal and I usually do ok eating around 1300 t0 1500 a day. I do have some weaknesses like pizza, soda and sweets. I don't eat them all the time or most of the time. If I've been lazy and I haven't gone grocery shopping, I will probably not end up eating the way I should. These past 3 days I've been eating terribly after several weeks of having an extremely awesome diet. The effect it has on me is instantly devastating, but I'm used to my cycles. I don't know the logic behind, feeling like shit and craving shitty food to feel shittier, but I often do that. There are things I will never eat because they sound terribly unhealthy, like fried oreos. I don't know why that exists. There's many others things that are so processed that don't appeal to me. When I cook regularly I eat extremely healthy. I just don't like eating the same food, so I need to constantly look for new recipes for new ways of cooking the same things. I get bored easily.
Something - imho. But I won't pursue it. It'll cause way too much trouble. It's a nice thread - best to keep it that way.
I eat whatever i want whenever i want life is too short to worry about the future all the time I avoid foods with lots of fat though...and i avoid anything hot due to gallbladder and other problems
Pressed Rat, I am curious about what you eat, what your typical meals include (since it obviously works very well).
I can say I am extremely happy with my diet. It is balanced (I think about the fats and calories in general so I can at least once a week eat it in the form of a meal ) and my body is handling it great without almost ever feeling the need to obsess over it. It just works naturally for me nowadays. I could cut back on the processed food but I eat it still in a reasonable amount to me and I'm on a budget/not in a flexible enough situation to change it Because I in general have no issues with watching what I eat I also don't have really food on a no no list (for health reasons at least). edit: so perhaps the word diet could be better replaced with eating pattern or something, since I'm not really on a diet (or is the word diet used here in that way already? Some posts made me doubt )
My breakfast pretty much consists of the same thing everyday -- 3 eggs, fresh pineapple, and Greek yogurt with flaxseed. I also eat a lot of other assorted fruits... apples, grapes, strawberries, blackberries. I usually don't eat lunch since I go to bed around noon, but if I do eat lunch it's usually sushi or something very light. For dinner it's almost always chicken or fish with vegetables of some kind -- usually steamed broccoli or green beans. For a snack overnight while at work, it's either fruits and/or nuts (macadamia nuts or raw almonds). I also consume a lot of fish oil, coconut oil, hemp and chia seeds, cinnamon, cayenne, etc. Oh, and I also drinks tons of water. And I power walk 90-120 minutes each day. I plan to start running in the Spring.
Tab water or do you buy bottles? (I drink lots of tab water because I'm cheap and it seems pretty good to me)
TAP water. Actually, I drink mostly bottled water. It's a ripoff, I know, but the municipal water around here tastes like shit and contains fluoride.
Ah yes, it tastes pretty much like bottle water here (netherlands). I want to add I eat lots of wheat based stuff (pasta's, bread etc.) but I don't strive to be the most healthy person in the world and my body seems to handle it well. I don't regard it as really unhealthy.
Okay, that's really good. How long did it take to get used to such diet? I mean, weren't you hungry? Do you still sometimes have chocolate or cake or whatever?
pretty much whatever whenever. i've pretty much cut out fast food, and i haven't been eating much in the way of sweets lately, but that's more a matter of taste than health concerns. it's not a terribly healthy diet, but it's really not bad. i have no plans to change it in the near future. so, when you graduate you're going to be a college graduate?
i try to eat well.. i really do. but when your roommates always buying pizza.. and fast food type of things.. u know its easy to just give in.. lol no but in the summer i was eating pretty healthy-ish most of the time. but when i started school about a month ago.. man.. i've been eating fast food like everyday.. i remember one week i had kfc like every day. lol soo bad. but certain foods i've already programmed into my mind that they arent good for me so i just stay away from them. like its not even an option for me... if that makes any sense.. my one problem is that eat everything on my plate even if im full.. i've just been raised that way.. i gotta change that but im always like.. ahh but its a wasteee..
It really bothers me when people associate the word diet with a healthy diet. It's not like he asked what do you eat while dieting? Diet as a noun and diet as a verb are two very different things. "The lion diet consists of raw meat". "All the food in his diet comes from McDonald's". "She liked to diet for a week and then would go on a crazy eating binge".
