Pentangle + Bert Jansch + John Renbourn solo LPs are probably my favourite of this kind stuff Comus is up there too theres a guy called Manduka from Brasil who was doing Brasilian folk revival in the 70s get it here follow the turboupload link, you will not be sorry. its almost like a latin take on the UK/US stuff in this thread
oh oh oh! Robbie Basho! I don't know if he fits in here really but I guess his music is some kind of folk fused with other worldy elements. Its mainly solo guitar with interesting tunings. they say he is the inventor of the 'American Raga'
oh wow, the trees! yeah! i got this http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:wvfwxqydldje~T1 recently
Christian psalms? I was clicking on it thinking it was some kind of boxset of the Trees, haha. I guess you're aware this has nothing to do with the folk rock group the Trees, since you seem to know the other folk rock bands from the sixties? I'm gonna check Manduka later though, sounds interesting.
yeah christian psalms... ethereal and eerie christian psalms! you should give em a listen, The Christ Tree is the LP you should look for. Its not quite like anything i've heard before its basically beautiful choral harmonies mixed with world instruments, has nothing to do with modern christianity at all... more about ancient christianty when it was still cool and mystical... recommended
I'll give it a try. I like some Gregorian choir stuff as well (not those masters of chant though). Maddy Prior of Steeleye Span also made some albums with christian songs, not really choir chants though.
well i'm just gonna have to point you in the right direction, man. this stuff has to be heard http://time-has-told-me.blogspot.com/2006/08/trees-christ-tree-us-psych-folk-1975.html click the download link after the description
how there were three sings called Peter,Paul & Mary. their where the first folk group I ever hear and then The Kingston Trio & last but not less The Weavers
