how does one measure talent? is there even such a thing?
how does anyone really KNOW about anyone else's personal habbits?
    i mean ACTUALLY KNOW?

meh, he may or may not have been either of those things, but he WAS murdered for refusing to lie to himself in his art.

sweetheart I have been called much worse than rude............should I fall over now and act like you have wounded me by saying such? cuz I will if it will make you feel better.

and, i do not believe that reading "John's lyrics" that I will see his "art"

This is all based on something called "opinion" it is my opinion. It is my opinion that I didnt like john lennon and that I liked McCartney better.

It is my opinion that John Lennon was not alive whe you were born. He died in December 8, 1980. I remember this day vividly as my English teacher made us suffer through Lennon songs with the lights off all period long. ( we were supposed to be meditating.)

It is my opinion that you probably listened to the Back Street Boys when you were younger. I have a 19 year old that was totally into them when she was young along with Ms. Spears and INSYNC. Her and tons of other girls

So i guess since you were about 21 in 1987 you only listened to Bryan Adams, Def Leppard and Kylie Minogue's Locomotion? It's my opinion that you came of age in the most vapid and culturally devoid decade in history thus far who care only about themselves. And its my opinion that you seem to be proving your true colors with with your negative posting.

Do you think you really need to be living in the same time period as some public figure to admire their work? It is in my opinion that this is a stupid idea.

And to bash the idols or simply the musical choices of a 19 year old or 16 year old with such ferocity and negativity as a 40 year old is rude and immature. Do you have anyone that you believe in? Do you admire anyone? and how would you feel?

I left off thousands of musicians who have dabbled or become dependant on drugs in their careers.

An idol is an image, picture, or representation; it is a sign or likeness that stands for an object by signifying or representing it, or by analogy. We don't admire people for the negative points in their lives or what they fail to do we exault them for their good deeds and what they have accomplished. Everyone in their full lives will do something that most people will not find acceptable look at Ghandi!

Here are some little known facts about the father of the nation.
    (1) He had a set of false teeth, which he carried in a fold of his loin cloth. He put them in his mouth only when he wanted to eat. After his meal, he took them out, washed them and put them back in his loin cloth again.
    (2) Mahatma Gandhi spoke English with an Irish accent, for one of his first teachers was an Irishman.
    (3) During the freedom struggle, he wore nothing but a loin cloth , but for years he lived in London and used to wear a silk hat and spats and carried a cane.
    (4) He was educated at London University and became an attorney. But the first time he attempted to make a speech in court, his knees trembled, and he was so frightened that he had to sit down in confusion and defeat.
    (5) Mahatma Gandhi experimented with diets to see how cheaply he could live and remain healthy. He started living principally on fruit and goats’ milk and olive oil.
    6) Gandhi’s pretty teenage girl followers used to fight “hysterically” for the honor of sleeping naked with the Mahatma and cuddling the nude septuagenarian in their arms. (Gandhi was “testing” his vow of chastity in order to gain moral strength for his mighty struggle with Jinnah.) When told there was a man named Freud who said that, despite his declared intention, Gandhi might actually be *enjoying* the caresses of the naked girls, Gandhi continued, unperturbed.
    7) his daily greeting was, “Have you had a good bowel movement this morning, sisters?” And he used to participate in giving all the girls in his ashram enemas and they gave him enemas in return.

Now if we take a few of these things and decide that Ghandi wasnt actually a leader of the non-violent movement he was a fetishist and a pedophile. Than what? Yay! Let's destroy all our idols. Ooh, thats going to be a new thread.

So is your point that anyone who does drugs should not be looked up too?

And if a person doesn't die from a drug overdose and manages to kick the habit, wouldn't you say they were able to control their physical addictions?

i have no point.. i made a statement about my personal beliefs.. what you choose to believe is your choice..

oh and ghandi isnt worth worship or reverence IMO,, nor is mother teresa...

in fact,, i cant think of a single soul, living or dead that i would consider worthy of such ideological worship as people give john lennon..

as far as controlling a addiction, being that i am a alcoholic who hasnt drank in over a year i would say yes, people can control there addictions,i dont know if i would go so far as to say "overcome",but i would definitely say they can be controlled..
i am living proof.. but please,,dont worship me.. lol

What about admiration. I don't think anyone on this forum has stated that they worship Lennon like a god. How about the other Lenin? That is the epitome of people engaging in ideological worship!
